Most truck owners don’t actually tow because they’re in it for that big truck energy. Still towing compacitites matters for work trucks, recreational activities, and bragging rights. Most Ford trucks make owners proud with the best-in-class towing capacity, but two options come up short. 

Two Ford trucks don’t have the best-in-class towing capacity 

We can congratulate most Ford trucks for having the best-in-class towing capacity. Nothing is better for fans than being stronger than the competition. 

However, Ford models don’t win across the board as the Ford Ranger and the Ford Maverick come up short against rivals. 

The Ford Maverick is the first truck that needs to get stronger to represent. It can only tow up to 4,000 lbs while the Hyundai Santa Cruz can tow up to 5,000 lbs. The Santa Cruz wins in the compact truck segment. 

In the mid-size truck segment, the best towing capacity is tied by the Chevy Colorado and Jeep Gladiator. Both of these trucks can tow up to 7,700 lbs. But the 2024 Ford Ranger isn’t too far behind with the ability to tow up to 7,500 lbs.

Then, the Ford F-150 Lightning fails to be the electric truck with the best towing capacity. It maxes out at 10,000 lbs, while the Rivian R1T can tow up to 11,000 lbs,

The Ford F-150 has the best-in-class towing capacity for full-size trucks. The 2024 F-150 can tow up to 13,500 lbs. 

However, the 2023 model can tow up to 14,000 lbs, so the 500 lb decrease is interesting. Also, the Chevy Silverado is in second place with the ability to tow up to 13,300 lbs.

The 2024 Ford F-250 isn’t the best three-quarter-ton HD truck for towing with the ability to tow up to 22,000 lbs. The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 sneaks in for the win with a towing capacity of up to 22,500 lbs. 

Last but not least, the 2024 Ford F-450 Super Duty is the best one-ton HD truck for towing. It can tow up to 40,000 lbs. The Chevy Silverado 4500 can tow up to 37,000 lbs. 

So out of six truck classes, Ford trucks only claim two best-in-class rankings for towing.
