With the introduction of the revised 2024 Jeep Wrangler this week, there was some anticipation that Jeep would offer the six-speed manual transmission option with its turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Unfortunately, those wanting this particular JL combo are not happy as the two won’t be together. Only the 3.6-liter V6 gets the manual transmission. 

What other Jeep Wrangler transmissions are available?

The Wrangler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 comes with the six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, or with an optional eight-speed automatic. If you opt for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, hybrid, or 6.4 Hemi V8, the eight-speed automatic is the only transmission available. So if you need the manual, then you’ll be getting the V6, too.

A noteworthy change for the 2024 Wrangler is that the Rubicon version gets a full-floating Dana 44 HD rear end. Jeep offers it for those wanting the taller off-road tires popular with enthusiasts. With this option, the towing capacity increases to a maximum of 5,000 lbs. For a bit of added security, an 8,000 lb Warn winch will also be available. 

Are there many changes to the exterior?

For 2024, Jeep is getting fancy with the iconic Wrangler grille. It will now feature a “grille-within-a-grille” design with a chrome racetrack around each opening. Jeep also adds 10 new wheel designs up to 20 inches. And Wrangler Willys models get 33-inch tires and raised fender flares to help shield them. 

Inside, the big news is the 12.3-inch screen with UConnect 5, aligning with other offerings from Ram and Dodge. This includes a new “Trails Offroad” function. This app helps guide drivers to and through over 60 “Jeep Badge of Honor” off-road trails. If you step up to the available trails subscription, this opens up over 3,000 trail guides. 

Did Jeep announce new Wrangler models?

Two new models added to the Jeep lexicon are the Sport S 4xe and Rubicon X. For the Sport S 4xe, the hybrid comes with a friendlier price than the current 4xe, while the Rubicon X has more beef. It adds an off-road camera, steel bumpers, and for non-hybrids, 35-inch tires. It also features acoustic glass, an upgraded Alpine audio system, and seats cloaked in Nappa leather. 

Looking ahead, Jeep said at this week’s New York Auto Show that in 2025 every Jeep model will be available with some form of electrification. Beyond that, it says half of its sales will be all-electric by the end of the decade. To that end, Jeep now offers “Power Box” 120-volt outlets on 4xe models.
