Only 3 Compact Pickup Trucks Are Recommended by Owners
Pickup trucks are not a one-size-fits-all situation. Compact pickup trucks have a tough job to do: fulfilling truck duties while still being easy to drive and park. Which new pickup trucks impressed those who sit behind the wheel every day? The 2022 Ford Ranger, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline, and the 2022 Ford Maverick, of course.
Owners recommend the Ford Ranger compact pickup truck
As always, J.D. Power asked drivers about life with the 2022 Ford Ranger compact pickup truck to ensure it was living up to expectations. The Ranger is one of the classic trucks in Ford’s lineup, but it often gets overshadowed by the full-size F-150. The compact nature of the pickup truck makes the Ranger a bit more maneuverable and easy to drive.
The 2022 Ranger comes equipped with safety features like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Owners report being highly satisfied with the quality and reliability of the Ranger, landing it in the top spot overall for the segment. The Ranger can tow 7,500 pounds and gets around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Current Range: $24,471 – $48,455
The Honda Ridgeline is another recommended compact pickup truck
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline compact pickup truck came in first out of nine similar trucks. The experts found that the Ridgeline was reliable, and owners seemed pleased with the quality and reliability within the first year of ownership. The cabin is quiet and well-finished, and drivers note that the comfortable ride is a highlight. That’s because the Ridgeline is more of an SUV with a truck bed than a regular truck.
Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning are all standard for this year. The 2022 Honda Ridgeline has a 5,000-pound towing capacity, which won’t fit the needs of all buyers, but it is enough for some. The Ridgeline returns 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Current Range: $32,932 – $46,888
Don’t forget everyone’s new favorite, the Ford Maverick
The 2022 Ford Maverick hit the scene this year and hasn’t slowed down yet. It managed to snag second place on J.D. Power’s list of best compact pickup trucks for 2022. One of the most significant selling points for the Ford Maverick compact truck is the price, starting at just under $20,000 for the bare-bones version. Buyers can customize the truck in a variety of ways and still stay within budget.
Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are standard for this year, but the rest of the driver assistance features are only optional. This compact truck can tow 4,000 pounds, which is enough for most people. The Maverick returned 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with the non-hybrid engine. For the Maverick hybrid, fuel economy shoots up to 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is one of the highlights noted by shoppers.
Current Range: $19,414 – $33,724
With so many trucks receiving redesigns this year, perhaps it was just an off-year for other makes and models. With that said, a popular truck is more likely to receive a price bump due to its popularity. These are some of the finest compact trucks that 2022 had to offer, and J.D. Power seems to agree.
