Recall alert for Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango rollaway risks

Stellantis is issuing a significant recall for about 270,904 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models due to faulty anti-lock brake systems (ABS).

The recall includes 2018 – 2019 Grand Cherokee and 2018 – 2019 Durango units. The models were manufactured between June 10, 2018, and April 30, 2019.

As a result, the vehicles can start up and shift out of park without the brake pedal being applied.

This increases the risk of the SUVs unintentionally rolling away and could lead to accidents. Plus, the brake light may illuminate while the pedal isn’t being pressed.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while this increases the risk of crashes, the unintended movement could also harm people outside of the vehicle.

You may notice this issue if the brake lights stay illuminated after the brake pedal is released. Plus, a dash light may illuminate after an unintentional rollaway occurs. So, keep an eye out for lights and rolling.

What to do if your Grand Cherokee or Durango is at risk

Stellantis will begin notifying owners of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models at risk via mail by July 29, 2022. You can also contact Stellantis for more information at 800-853-1403. The recall number is Z48.

You can enter your Vehicle Identification Number on the NHTSA site to see if your vehicle is at risk. The recall number for this issue is 22V246.

Your vehicle will need to go in for service. You can visit a local Stellantis dealership. You don’t have to return to the same place you purchased your vehicle.

However, Stellantis doesn’t have a plan to fix the problem yet. Investigations are underway, but Stellantis doesn’t know why the ABS modules are failing.

Hopefully, the fix will be figured out by the end of July. The vehicles should be inspected and repaired if necessary at no cost to owners. If you’ve already had this issue repaired, you could be reimbursed, but you’ll need your receipt.
