Luxury vehicles have to keep topping each other’s features, especially in the SUV category. That could range from an in-vehicle fridge to a granite trim to a scented system. It also includes high-tech infotainment systems and sound systems. One comfortable luxury feature is massaging seats.

The comfortable seats of SUVs

The BMW X5 made Consumer Reports’ list for having the most comfortable luxury SUV seats for 2020. These seats have a leatherette upholstery, and the front seats offer a variety of electronically adjustable seating options. Drivers can also manually adjust the bottom seat for better leg support. It does have massaging seats available in the front.

Other 2020 SUVs with comfortable seats aren’t from luxury brands: the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Dodge Durango. The Tiguan does offer a massage function for the driver’s seat, along with 14-way adjustment, lumbar support, and heating. The Durango doesn’t offer massaging, but it does have available heated and ventilated eight-way power front seats and four-way lumbar support.

SUVs with massaging seats

Many other SUVs have available massaging seats, along with many other seating amenities. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 will have standard massaging leather front seats that are also ventilated and heated. The second-row seats are also heated. Heating in the third row is optional.

The 2020 Lincoln Navigator loads up on luxury features. It has optional 30-way adjustable front seats that also provide massaging. The seats can be adjusted with two-zone bolstering, left and right thigh support, and bottom height. It has heating, cooling, and ventilation as well.

The 2020 Audi e-tron is an electric luxury crossover SUV with massaging seats. Its higher trim level, the Prestige trim, provides Valcona leather along with the massaging seats.

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne has optional massaging front seats. Eight-way power-adjustable front seats and leather upholstery come standard. In addition to the massage feature, other optional features include heated and ventilated front and rear seats and 14- or 18-way power-adjustable front seats.

The massaging feature appears in non-luxury vehicles as well. While it’s generally available on just the top trims, Ford includes massaging seats in its Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition SUVs, and the Ford F-150 truck.

The price of comfort

Owning massaging seats does usually adds to the price. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 has a hefty base price of $148,495. It’s unknown at this point whether the massaging feature will come standard.

The 2020 Lincoln Navigator has a starting price of $76,185. The massaging seats are standard on the top two of five trims. These trims start at $97,135 for the Black Label and $100,335 for the Black Label L. The massaging seats are optional on two more. The Reserve trim starts at $81,725, and the Reserve L starts at $84,925. Adding the Luxury Package with the massaging seats increases the Reserve price by $4,000.

The Audi e-tron starts at $74,800, but buyers will need to come up with an extra $4,300 for the trim that includes massaging seats. The 2020 Porsche Cayenne has a starting price of $67,500, but its top trim starts at $166,200. Adding massaging and ventilated seats in the front can cost $2,000. The BMW X5’s two trims begin at $59,400 and $61,700, while its electric version starts at $65,400. The luxury seating package, which adds the front’s massaging seats, is an additional $1,600.

The 2020 Ford Edge starts at $31,100, and its top trim starts at $43,265. The 2020 Ford Explorer starts at $32,765, and its top trim begins at $58,250. The 2020 Ford Expedition’s starting price is $52,810, and its top trim starts at $73,935. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan, mentioned earlier, has a starting price of $24,945 and a top trim starting price of $38,795.
