When it comes to the most famous of Aston Martin grand tourers (GTs), only one alphanumeric name springs to mind. I’m, of course, referring to the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, popularized by fictional superspy James Bond. However, no shortage of the British elite grabbed the keys not to a DB5, but an Aston Martin DB6. Of the most famous DB6 owners, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and King Charles III chose the GT car over other options.

The Aston Martin DB5 might be one of the most instantly recognizable GT cars ever. However, the DB5’s tenure had to come to an end. As such, the Aston Martin DB6 got a crack at things. Stylistically, the DB6 is extremely similar to the DB5. Round lamps and the large grille dominate the fascia, just as they did in the previous model.
The DB6 wears a split-bumper front end, typically where a number plate resides. The most noticeable style change is at the rear end. Gone were the DB5’s rounded taillights and boxier quarter panels. Both cars packed a 4.0L inline-six-cylinder mill. What’s more, each GT car offered a three-speed automatic gearbox or a five-speed ZF manual transmission.
However, despite the DB5’s Hollywood appeal, the Aston Martin DB6 was the vehicle of choice for British super-celebs like Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, and King Charles III. In Sir Paul McCartney’s case, the Beatle bought himself a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 two years after the band’s first single, “Love Me Do,” captured the masses, per Car and Driver.
Still, McCartney also treated himself to a 1966 Aston Martin DB6, this time in a Goodwood Green rather than the Sierra Blue of his DB5. While Sir Paul McCartney clearly loves his Astons, he sold it in 1971. In addition to McCartney, “Rolling Stones” leading man Mick Jagger publicly flaunted his 1966 model around London.
However, it’s not just music men; King Charles III, the current head of the British monarchy, also acquired an Aston Martin DB6. Better yet, His Majesty reportedly still drives the DB6.
