So why are people passing on the Kia Telluride for the Hyundai Palisade? It comes down to Kia being unable to keep up with demand and Hyundai having the supply to make up for it.

Edmunds found very little to complain about with the 2023 Kia Telluride. It has plenty of room for passengers, the newest technology, and an upscale cabin that looks more expensive than it is. Kia’s midsize SUV also earned points for its comfortable seats and added safety features, all within an MSRP range of $35,890 to $52,985.
For the 2023 Hyundai Palisade, the MSRP range from $35,550 to $51,400 is pretty comparable. It also has three rows and plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The cabin is upscale and quiet, fitted with all the safety features buyers want. Hyundai’s Palisade is quite similar to the Telluride but happens to be just a little more popular.
Due to the Telluride’s popularity, it can sometimes be hard to find. On top of that, some dealerships add a dealership markup to the cost to capitalize on that popularity. That means shoppers have to pay extra simply because it is popular. For the most part, the Palisade doesn’t have that problem. It is more widely available, and dealerships haven’t been marking it up so much.
What are the differences between the Telluride and the Palisade?
The differences between the Telluride and the Palisade are minor. Edmunds’ five-year cost-to-own analysis shows that the Telluride has a true cost-to-own of $49,971, compared to the Palisade’s $49,839. The Kia SUV will cost around $0.67 per mile, compared to the Hyundai’s $0.66. Further, the SUVs have similar maintenance and fuel costs.
Hyundai equipped the Palisade with many driver-assistance aids like forward collision mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. Kia’s driver-aids look the same. Both vehicles earned this year’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Plus award.
Both vehicles also get the 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty from Kia and Hyundai. The Telluride has a slight edge over the Palisade in a few ways but has also drawn more buyers. If the brand isn’t an issue, the Palisade is almost identical and often easier to find.

Kia’s Telluride has pages of dealerships, like one in Colorado that added a $14,000 markup to the 2023 Telluride. Another one in New Jersey added $9,000, while a Massachusetts dealership added a $12,000 markup to the 2022 Telluride. The Hyundai Palisade has a few markups, mostly under $5,000.
It is logical some shoppers are passing up the Kia Telluride for the Hyundai Palisade if it is less expensive and more widely available. These days, many people are simply buying whatever is available. If that happens to be Hyundai, the sale goes to Hyundai. Kia has been catching up on inventory backlogs in recent months, but the Palisade is always a good option for drivers.
