Buying an SUV seems like a pretty drab idea, especially to sports car drivers who enjoy an exciting driving experience. But, for many families, driving a sports car isn’t necessarily a practical option, and when you’re squeezing in car seats, soccer bags, and the family dog, you feel like you’re sacrificing a driving experience that will actually make you excited to be on the road. These performance SUVs, on the other hand, might just be powerful enough to change your expectations of SUVs for the better.

The Lamborghini Urus

The Lamborghini Urus was an overall controversial vehicle to many people because, as an SUV, we don’t expect much in the way of performance. So, you might be surprised to hear that the Urus has more horsepower than many sedans and coupes, and even some others sports cars on the road. According to the manufacturer, the twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 produces 641 hp, giving the family-oriented SUV a truly enjoyable driving experience.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has long been known for its ability to tackle any off-road trail but upgrade to the Trackhawk package for an extra boost of power you may not be expecting. With a reported 707 hp, the Trackhawk dominates on the road as much as it does off. The 6.2-liter V8 engine under the hood pushes the car as fast as you’d expect any performance Dodge vehicle to go.

The Dodge Durango Hellcat

The Dodge Hellcat motor has been instilling fear in the hearts of drag racers every year for years, and under the hood of the brand’s popular SUV, the Dodge Durango, it’s no wonder that the family van can compete with higher-end sports cars. Everything about these performance SUVs is unique, from their low production numbers to their seemingly odd pairing of the engine with the vehicle. It supposedly makes as much as 710 hp making it a crazy fast option for a full-sized SUV.
