What is the third generation Chevy Silverado?

The third generation of the Chevy Silverado 1500 was sold from 2014 until 2018. Because of that, you can get a fairly new truck with lower mileage even though you are buying used. Do Chevy Silverados have a lot of problems?

Generally speaking, the Chevy Silverado is a safe truck to buy used. Some folks have reported engine issues, but with proper maintenance, those should be able to be avoided. The third-generation Silverado is not all that old. And that will allow you to enjoy some modern features and comfort. Including things like leather seating depending on which trim you opt for. 

According to MotorTrend, in 2015, Chevy added a new transmission to the Silverado 1500. Known as the 8L90E transmission, this component has eight gears and is automatic. You can also benefit from a backup camera which will aid when you are towing with your full-size truck. 

How much should you pay for a third-generation Silverado 1500?

In terms of cost, Silverado 1500 models from 2014-2018 do vary depending on configuration, mileage, and condition. You can get a bare-bones model with over 100,000 miles for around $20,000. But, if you want a higher trim level with lower mileage, you will likely pay over $30,000. But that is still cheaper than a Chevy Silverado made in 2022. 

You should not have to break the bank in order to get a full-size truck. And although you might have to make some compromises when purchasing used, you can still get a decent pickup that has plenty of life left in it.
