Pickups With Best Resale Over Five Years
If you want to be assured of the best resale value for your next truck purchase look at the stats for a five-year period. You may be surprised at which pickup trucks actually do the best after five years.
Vehicles depreciate right at 50% over five years. That’s the price of owning a new car or truck. So you could say any vehicle beating 50% is a good value. Some brands, in general, retain value better than others. Porsche, Jeep, and Toyota all fare better in terms of value over any given period. iSeeCars did a study comparing 2014 cars sold recently with their list prices when new.
Here are the Top 5 pickups with the best resale value over five years:
5. Nissan Frontier
While the Nissan Frontier isn’t flashy, it provides value for the price. The Frontier starts at $19,090 and gets serviceable but not extraordinary marks for safety, predictability, and style. For any family on a budget, the Frontier is a great mid-size truck to consider.
Average five-year depreciation: 39.5%
4. Honda Ridgeline
The Ridgeline was developed as Honda’s first truck for the North American pickup truck market. First produced in 2005 for the model year 2006, the Ridgeline was redesigned for 2009 and 2012. After an initial popular start, the truck was discontinued in 2014 but returned to production for the model year 2017. Today, the Honda Ridgeline is considered one of the best trucks on today’s market.
Average five-year depreciation: 38.1%
3. Toyota Tundra
Toyota’s Texas-built Tundra is in a class by itself when it comes to reliability. In the nine years, this decade Consumer Reports took surveys and ran tests on the pickup, Tundra scored the highest marks eight times. (In the ninth year, it scored above average.) Compared to other pickups, Tundra is noteworthy because it has not undergone a redesign since 2007. Toyota started out great and continued perfecting it ever since. Among half-ton pickups, it’s easily your best bet for reliability.
Average five-year depreciation: 35.9%
2. Toyota Tacoma
Car Complaints compared all of the reported problems from every Tacoma model year, and it’s clear that you should avoid the 2007 Tacoma. Even though the 2014 Tacoma receives fewer complaints, the 2015 Tacoma tops the list of best used Tacomas. The 2015 Toyota Tacoma received few complaints and low issue rankings for most categories. The most commonly reported problems with the model year are with the brakes, which often require routine maintenance and quality care, to begin with.
Average five-year depreciation: 32%
1.Jeep Wrangler
Though not like a traditional pickup, we still added the Jeep Wrangler for comparison. Here to impress, the Wrangler comes in two-door and four-door models, all with four-wheel-drive and removable doors and tops. You’ll find 10.9-inches of ground clearance and two solid axles that share a two-speed transfer case and low-range gear ratios. You can climb any hurdle with 33-inch all-terrain tires and a detachable anti-roll bar for the front. The base engine is a 285 hp, 3.6L V6, with an option to upgrade to a turbocharged four-cylinder. We were surprised to see how closely its value matches the Tacoma.
