As of late, the cryptocurrency market has become a place where you can either go completely broke or become wealthier than you could’ve ever imagined. A 28-year-old Australian man won a substantial amount of money recently, mainly trading Bitcoin. To reward himself, he went out and bought a 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante. According to CarBuzz, this resulted in the Queensland police department taking possession of the Italian supercar. To make matters worse for the owner, the department has chosen to auction the car off. As you might imagine, this story takes a couple of shady turns before getting there.

As mentioned in the intro, this Lamborghini Huracan Performante starts with the Australian 28-year old making a sizable fortune off Bitcoin and purchasing the car. However, this crypto trader was generous enough to utilize a portion of his winnings to buy his girlfriend an Audi A5.

However, the problems surrounding this Lamborghini Huracan Performante appeared quickly and frequently. That’s because this supercar owner managed to rack up at least 20 serious traffic infractions. According to CarBuzz, these charges include dangerous driving, evading police, and driving under the influence of drugs.

When the police caught up with the car and arrested its owner, it had 662 miles on its odometer. Meaning that all of this illegal activity happened before the car’s first oil change. However, everything culminated one night as the Lamborghini was caught doing 125 mph in a 70 mph zone.

According to CarBuzz, the owner’s girlfriend reported the car stolen six days after it had evaded police. Shortly after, officers found the car after the owner reportedly crashed it. From there, officers caught up with the owner that had fled the scene.

As you might imagine, the Queensland police department is charging the owner with some fairly serious crimes. In fact, a court sentenced this supercar’s owner to four years in prison a few months ago. Following the owner’s conviction, the police department confiscated the car.

After taking possession of this Lamborghini Huracan Performante, the Queensland police department has decided to auction it off. According to CarBuzz, all of the proceeds will go back to the local government. Aside from collecting a massive amount of funds, the main purpose of the public auction is to make an example of the owner and hopefully deter others from committing the same crimes.

All in all, CarBuzz estimates that a Performante in this condition should easily sell for over $300,000. Hopefully, this car will get a more responsible second owner.
