Police Chase Rented Maserati, Lose It, Find It, and Get Mocked Anyway
This Maserati chase is one for the books. A man in Maryville, Tennessee, was arrested at his home this week after police discovered the key fob belonging to the 2016 Maserati Ghibli they ran after and lost track of earlier that day.
It was quite the pursuit, with the Maserati reaching 120 mph speeds while weaving on and off various Knox County interstates. After blowing through a red light at over 100 mph (boo, don’t do that. Or any of this, actually), the Maserati jumped back on the highway and was out of sight.
KSCO reported that once the trident fled the scene entirely, Knox County officers contacted the vehicle owner, who rents the car on Turo. Someone had picked up the vehicle earlier that day.
The owners provided local detectives with the GPS location of the car. Once the resident was identified, it was discovered that the individual was on probation and could be subject to search at any time. Officials did just that and found the suspect and the key to the Ghibli at the home.
The jeering came as police made the arrest. According to the docket, the suspect “uttered that he had successfully eluded officers early in the evening and expressed that he did not care about the consequences from the incident.” A bit too late for any na-na na-na-boo-boos.

In 2016, the three-toothed four-door sedan came in three trims: the Ghibli, the S, and the S Q4. The 2016 touted a twin-turbo V6 with an eight-speed automatic making upwards of 404 hp. Its 0-60 time is 4.7 seconds, and its top speed caps at 177 mph. Kelley Blue Book estimates you can get one for under $25,000 if you’re looking.
With that top speed, at a mere 100 mph, the suspect was really just cruising around (no, he wasn’t, and again, don’t do any of the above).
