Police officer pulls over chief deputy ‘playing’ with unmarked Dodge Charger [Video]
In June 2023, a Georgia police officer pulled over a Dodge Charger. A year later, clips of the dash and body cam footage still circulate on social media. The officer clocked the muscle car going 96 mph in a 35 mph zone. When he approached the driver, he wasn’t expecting to see a colleague.
Henry County Sheriff Chief Deputy Michael Yarbrough was in uniform, and another officer was in the passenger seat. It turns out that the unmarked Dodge Charger belonged to the local sheriff’s office.
“Really?” the officer asked Yarborough. The attending officer collected the chief deputy’s ID and returned to his cruiser, where he made a phone call to another colleague. The police officer asked whether he should write the chief deputy a ticket for the offense. “This is your traffic stop. Do what you think you should do,” the colleague responds.
The officer decided to issue Yarborough a citation. “Please slow down and have a safe day,” the officer said as he concluded the traffic stop.
Later, it was confirmed that the uniformed driver and passenger were on duty. At the time of the speed reading, Yarborough didn’t have sirens or lights on. Moreover, Yarborough’s citation was ultimately reduced to a warning.
In response to the event, Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett issued a statement, including, “After reviewing the facts of the incident, I suspended the Chief Deputy for forty hours without pay for the severity of the traffic citation.”
Fox 5 Atlanta reported that speeding that high over the limit often results in more than a simple citation. Criminal defense attorney Kevin Fisher said in many cases, officers decide to take the offender straight to jail. In similar cases, attending officers also often issue more than one ticket.
The Dodge Charger Pursuit’s last production year was 2023. Stellantis now offers the Durango Pursuit, the Jeep Wagoneer L, and the Ram 1500 Classic Special Service Vehicle.
