It’s hard to find a car right now. It’s especially difficult if you want one of the most popular SUVs, which are flying off dealer lots. The fastest-selling car right now in the United States is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. What’s making it such a hot seller, and can you even find one if you want one?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is the fastest-selling car right now

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek isn’t just the fastest-selling SUV in the country, it’s the fastest-selling car. iSeeCars tracks how long it takes cars to sell, and then compiles a list every month of the fastest-selling vehicles, and the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is at the top of the list for September. In August it was the fourth fastest-selling vehicle.

In September, the average vehicle was sitting on dealer lots for 24.6 days before it was being sold. This is faster than August, when it was taking 26 days to sell a vehicle. The fastest-selling vehicles are selling 2.1 to 3.1 times as fast, at an average of 10.1 days. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is selling even more quickly, at roughly 7.8 days.

The 2021 Crosstrek isn’t the only Subaru on this list

Subarus had a good September. Not only was the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek the fastest-selling SUV in the country, but the 2021 Subaru Forester took spot number three on the list of the fastest-selling cars. While both Subarus are great SUVs, it’s possible that the 2021 Subaru Forester is slightly behind the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek because of price. While the Crosstrek is selling at an average price of $29,230, the Forester is coming in at $32,778.

Another explanation for their fastest-selling cars status may be scarcity. Subaru closed the plant that both the Crosstrek and Forester are made in Japan from September 7 to September 22,2021. This meant there were less SUVs to be had, and may have prompted people to purchase those that were available.

Eight of the top ten fastest-selling cars are SUVs

If you were wondering how popular SUVs are, the fact that eight out of the top ten fastest-selling cars are SUVs should illustrate just how much people love them. Rounding out the top ten are the 2021 Toyota RAV4 in fifth place, followed by the 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, the 2021 Toyota C-HR, the 2021 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, and the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Interestingly, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette takes the second spot, at a price of $92,366, and the 2021 Toyota Sienna slides into spot number four, at $43,331.

If you want the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek (or the 2021 Subaru Forester), you’ll have to act quickly. The microchip shortage isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, so the scarcity of both new and used SUVs and other vehicles is likely to continue. It will be interesting to see if the 2021 Crosstrek and Forester SUVs will be able to hold their places among the fastest-selling SUVs, or if production disruptions will end their reign.
