In an intriguing turn of events, Porsche is introducing a new way to fit their classic cars with 21st-century infotainment. The German carmaker has named this new connectivity option as Porsche Classic Communication Management. PCCM features a vintage design while incorporating the infotainment features we have come to expect including Bluetooth, DAB+, and Apple CarPlay, and high-resolution screens. Another exciting feature is that Android Auto connectivity is available for the infotainment refresh for the classic models.

Intertwining the Old with the New

The PCCM is basically Porsche’s way of updating its past and us nostalgics can rejoice about that.PCCM comes in two options to replace the classic built-in systems. There’s the 1-DIN dimension option that’s designed for the classic cars that have narrow radio slots. It also features 3.5-inch screen display. The screen display is touch-sensitive but is primarily operated by its two rotary nobs and also features a navigation function.

The second PCCM option called PCCM Plus is a 2-DIN format which has a 7-inch display and is intended for the 996 generations and 986 models. Porsche says that the PCCM is compatible with numerous class models including ones in the1960s through the 1990s. The Plus option is compatible with Android Auto, Apple Carplay, and media payback is also feasible through Bluetooth, AUX cord, USB port as well as SD card.

The standard PCCM is priced at 1,439.89 euros and PCCM Plus is priced at 1,606.51 euros. Porsche hasn’t released specific U.S. pricing at this time.

Porsche calls its modern infotainment and navigation connectivity made for its latest models Porsche Communication Management. The older PCM system was guided by physical buttons which made it generally easy to use.

Now, the latest PCM generation still offers the same user-friendly controls but features a standard high-resolution touchscreen display that does most of the controlling.  Models like the 2020 Porsche 911 have a 10.9 – inch touchscreen that works beautifully. Porsche also offers two upgraded surround sound systems which also includes a 12-speaker Bose unit and a 13-speaker Burmester stereo.

Speaking of new equipment options, Porsche also announced those in Europe can now order a seven-speed manual transmission for 911 Carrera S and 4S models. This manual transmission option is geared toward sportier drivers who want to feel like they have more control. The manual transmission offering is part of the Sport Chrono package. The Sport Chrono package also includes Porsche Torque Vectoring which also is intended for those who require more agility. This package was first offered with the 911 Turbo S.
