Have you ever wanted a Porsche? Maybe 911, or perhaps, a Cayman, if you want something more reasonable. But what if you didn’t want to spend more than $2,000? In that case, you don’t have a lot of options under the Porsche nameplate, but we found something that you could afford: a Porsche laptop.

Porsche makes a laptop?

Not exactly. To clarify, Porsche Design, which is a subsidiary company of the automaker partnered up with Acer to make a laptop. And in case you’re wondering, the official name of this piece of luxury-designed hardware is called the “Porsche Design Acer Book RS.” And we use the term “luxury design” with as serious of a straight face as possible.

Sarcasm aside, the Porsche Design company has been known for making such luxurious items as clothes, watches, shoes, and a giant beach-side condominium tower in Miami where the owners can ride the elevators with their cars up to their luxurious living quarters.

In case you haven’t guessed, Porsche Design designs stuff for the ultra-wealthy demographic, or basically those that can not only afford a $150,000 Porsche, but also a $60 V-neck cotton T-shirt that looks no different than one that you can buy on the Kohls clearance rack.

Porsche Design Acer Book RS

Considering that all of the other Porsche Design products that we just mentioned are super pricey, you can bet that the Acer Book RS is going to carry a price tag that’s comparable. In fact, it costs $1,399, which is actually on par with competitors from Apple and Microsoft, but it’s still overpriced for what you get. And what you get is a diamond-cut carbon fiber lid and an all-metal silver chassis. It looks pretty flashy, but how else are you going to show off your upper-echelon status to the other patrons at your local coffee shop?

The shell itself is made from a mix of magnesium and aluminum and the laptop only weighs about 2.5 pounds. As far as the specs go, the screen measures in at 14 inches and has a 1080p resolution, but no OLED here. And on the inside, there’s an 11^th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, an Nvidia GeForce MX350 graphics cards, and a dual-copper heat pipes cooling system.

According to Pocket-Lint, the Acer Book RS isn’t exactly a gamer’s laptop, but it will work well for any of the normal business you conduct on a daily basis since it operates on Windows 10. Otherwise, the material used and the build quality of this premium laptop are first-rate, as you would hope for. There’s even a built-in fingerprint scanner on the mousepad for added security and easy access into the system.

Is the Acer Book RS worth the price?

Technically speaking, not really. Considering you can probably buy, or even build, a laptop with better specifications for cheaper, you’re technically just paying for the name with this one. And that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering it was built in part by a company that caters to those that can not only afford a Porsche but can also afford a $32 million condo parked next to the beach.
