For the most part, pickup truck shortages have subsided and inventory levels are returning to normal, right? Well, maybe. More incomplete Ford F-150 models are piling up due to part shortages. Let’s see what’s holding the 2024 Ford F-150 back. 

How long is the wait for a 2024 Ford F-150?

If you’re waiting on the 2024 Ford F-150, get comfortable. Some dealerships are reporting that it may take over three months to get a build date. If everything goes well, your truck could be delivered about three to six weeks after it’s built. 

However, other reports suggest that the wait time for the 2024 F-150 could take between six to nine months. 

The orderbanks for the new F-150 opened on September 13, then production began on December 18, 2023. So, the refreshed models are making some progress. 

However, due to product shortages, incomplete 2024 F-150 models are starting fill up around factory lots. For a mysterious reason, the trucks are sitting pretty instead of being delivered. 

In 2020, the semiconductor chip shortage hit the F-150 hard. Trucks were being built without the chips and stored until they could be added later. Then they had to undergo an extensive quality check before being delivered.

This time, it’s unclear what type of shortage the F-150 is facing. However according to Pickup Truck Talk, the assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan was closed from January 25 through the 31, and the Kansas City plant was closed from January 25 until February 1. 

Ford has remained tight-lipped about which supplier is struggling and if the plant closures will lead to delays. 

It’s unclear why the F-150 models are stuck in holding lots. The trucks could be waiting for a certain part to be completed or may require quality checks. 

The Ford F-150 Lightning currently has a stop-sale due to issues that are being corrected before deliveries resume. But Ford hasn’t shared anything about what the problem is and if it’s related to the gas-powered models. 

The best you can do at the moment is expect to add a few weeks to your delivery time or ask a local dealership for an update.
