Last Year’s $2 Billion Powerball Winner Uncorks Luxury with Aged-to-Perfection Vintage Cars
Historically, Powerball cars are brand-new wheels with some admittedly humble models peppered in. Previous winners have touted Mustangs, Corvettes, and Camaros. From a UTV, a gold Tesla Model S, and a Yukon Denali to the almost cliche Ferrari and Lambo purchases, the range is certainly wide.
On February 14, 2023, 30-year-old Edwin Castro was announced the winner of an eye-watering $2.04 billion Powerball pot. Atypically, the lottery drawing was delayed a day, and the winner’s vetting process took months. Now that he’s settled into his grand prize, we’re thrilled at the ultrafine classic cars he’s carefully selecting to fill his garages.
The near-billionaire purchased his Powerball ticket at Joe’s Service Center, a local gas station near his one-bedroom home in Altadena, California. Castro opted for a $997 million lump sum, post-taxes. Soon, he’d acquire multiple mansions. Last fall, the Daily Mail shared photos of his $40 million Bel Air driveway, and it’s chock-full of classic goodies.
Edwin Castro’s Powerball cars include two sets of triplets
With five vintage cars in one driveway alone, plus another he was spotted cruising around with, Castro was clearly a big fan of two specific nameplates before cashing in his lump lottery sum.
His Powerball car lineup includes:
- 1970s Porsche 911 SC
- 1980s Porsche 911 G
- 1980s or early 90s Porsche 911 964 Turbo
- Three Volkswagen Karmann Ghias
The Karmann Ghia years aren’t specified but could range from 1956 to 1974.
These particular Powerball cars are stunning and reflect pure class on Castro’s part. What’s a bit smile-inducing is the total casualness of Castro’s vibe post-win. He was often photographed in 2023 wearing a slack ponytail, rumpled clothes, and flip-flops.
He also had a new Ram 1500 TRX parked in the driveway, so the man has range.
