Premature Excitement For the Toyota Tacoma EV Is Brewing
There are plenty of reasons to get excited about the Toyota Tacoma. It’s a reliable, durable, and capable truck. But people are getting even more pumped for the Toyota Tacoma EV, and it doesn’t even have an official production date yet! What’s the big deal about?
When will the Toyota Tacoma EV come out?
The Toyota Tacoma EV doesn’t have a specific release date or production date yet, but clues suggest the electric truck is in the works. We will probably see the next-generation Tacoma arrive first.
Then the electric Tacoma could come out a few months later. The new Tacoma might arrive by the end of the year for 2024, but it might not be redesigned until 2025. That would put the Tacoma EV on hold until 2026 or later.
But on a positive note, we’ve already seen an electric truck concept that’s similar to the Tacoma. Plus, Toyota would like to introduce 15 new electric vehicles by 2025. So it could be on track to arrive within the next two years.
According to Autolist, people can’t wait. The sooner, the better because a survey shows that most non-truck owners are interested in the Tacoma EV. They picked it over the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck.
Current truck owners would pick the F-150 Lightning over rivals, but the Tacoma EV landed in second place. This means it’s already putting pressure on the competition, and it’s not even here yet!
What do we know about the electric Tacoma?
The Toyota Tacoma EV is expected to ride on a modified version of the TNGA-F platform. The platform will be modified to support electric and hybrid vehicles. We will probably see the Tacoma Hybrid first.
Also, the Tacoma EV will remind true to its rugged roots with substantial off-roading upgrades. It will probably ride on aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in beefy 35-inch all-terrain tires. Also, it could feature skid plates, recovery hooks, modified control arms, and a leaf spring suspension.
Rumors suggest that the Electric Tacoma will feature advanced software to deliver customers new ideas rapidly. So, it will probably feature over-the-air (OTA) updates. Two different firms could be working on the software platform.
Long-lasting, durable batteries are an important key to success and reliability. The bZ4X battery has a set target of 90 percent endurance performance. The Tacoma EV could have a range of 200 to 300 miles.
How much could the Tacoma EV cost?
Official pricing for the Toyota Tacoma EV hasn’t been released, but rumors suggest that it will start at around $40,000. This would provide a more affordable price against the Ford F-150 Lightning and could be close to the Ford Ranger EV’s cost.
The Toyota Tacoma EV TRD Pro may increase the price to about $55,000, and the luxurious Limited model could begin at about $60,000. Battery upgrades will probably be available, and we can expect standard 4×4.
We’ve already seen the concept with a covered grille to improve aerodynamics. It has a Tacoma look with a similar size. It almost seems production ready! But updates remain scarce.
