Tesla is one of the most popular car brands right now, and while many Teslas are high-quality, they also have their fair share of flaws. Unfortunately for many Tesla owners, some of those flaws have led to their cars being recalled. Even worse, practically every Tesla on the road is now being recalled, and here’s a look at why.

It’s currently affecting almost every single Tesla

According to CarBuzz, almost every single Tesla on the road is currently being recalled for one reason or another. While it sounds terrible, it’s not as bad as it might seem. There are two recalls, one affects the Model X, and the other involves pretty much every other Tesla model.

Some Model Xs are being recalled over an airbag problem. However, this problem affects many Model Xs, and only about 7,300 of them were recalled for this problem. This airbag issue has to do with a problem that may happen when the airbags are deployed. Unfortunately, about half of the Teslas may suffer from this issue. Owners will simply have to take their Model X to a Tesla service center to get it fixed.

The other recall affects almost 600,000 cars in total, and they include the Model 3, the Model Y, and the Model S. This recall has to do with Tesla’s Boombox feature, which breaks safety regulations. The good news is that while this is affecting a lot of Teslas, it can and will be fixed with an over-the-air update. As such, affected Tesla owners probably won’t need to bring their car in.

Tesla’s had many other recalls in the past, too

This isn’t actually Tesla’s first massive recall that was then fixed with an over-the-air update. In fact, it’s happened multiple times in recent years. One of those recent massive recalls, for example, had to do with Tesla’s seat belt reminder alert system. The chime simply wasn’t working. This particular one affected even more Teslas, and over 800,000 cars were recalled because of this issue. But since this was a software issue,  it was fixed pretty quickly.

That being said, not all Teslas were easily fixed with an over-the-air update. In late 2021, Tesla was forced to recall over 500,000 cars because of two different issues. The Model S had a problem with its hood latch, and the Model 3 had a problem with its rearview camera’s wires. Since these weren’t software-related problems, Tesla couldn’t solve it with a patch. As such, owners will have to fix them by taking their Tesla to a service center.

Here’s how Elon Musk is responding to these massive recalls

Many people will defend Tesla, but Tesla’s biggest and most public defender is none other than Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO. When it comes to recalls, Musk has a lot of opinions about them. He doesn’t even think “recall” is a good word and thinks it is an outdated concept.

There is some truth to those beliefs, as a minor issue that can be fixed with an over-the-air update isn’t the same as a recall that has to do with the car’s airbags. Regardless, Musk’s controversial opinions regarding the word have put pressure on him and Tesla, especially over certain features, such as Tesla Autopilot. Tesla originally refused to recall some cars that had Tesla’s Full Self-Driving feature, but eventually, Tesla relented and recalled 50,000 of them.
