Pricing for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Proves it is an Affordable Long-Range EV
Recently, Hyundai revealed its latest EV – the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Now, pricing for that new electric vehicle is here, and it makes the new electric sedan an affordable, long-range EV that should entice new buyers to take a peek. With a starting price of just $41,600 long-range pricing at $45,500, the Ioniq 6 is a step in the right direction for affordable EV pricing.
More affordable EVs struggle with long range
We acknowledge that there are EVs on the market for much less than the new Hyundai Ioniq 6. The only problem with those is that they struggle to deliver the range most Americans want. While the need for 300-mile range EVs could be debated, the fact is that the American market is demanding that as a range target.
Models like the Chevy Bolt EV are considerably cheaper; however range barely cracks 250 miles. That affordable EV is also considerably smaller, so carrying passengers and cargo is questionable.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 fights in the same category as the Ioniq 6 on features and size. However, its long-range model costs nearly $10,000 more at just over $53,000. Looking at the BMW i4 and Polestar 2, and the situation is similar. Those models are luxurious and offer great range, but at price points much higher than the battery-powered Hyundai.
What comes with a base-price Ioniq 6?
For the base price of $41,600, the Ioniq 6 delivers 240 miles of range and 149 horsepower. Other features of this base model will include Hyundai’s advanced driver assistance technology, dual-digital dash displays, and power-adjustable seats. Currently, other feature details of the Ioniq 6 are unknown.
We expect the new Hyundai electric sedan to follow a similar breakdown to the Ioniq 5 crossover. That means standard kit like advanced voice recognition and navigation. We also expect that wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will make an appearance, though they may not be base kit in year one.
Is a long-range Hyundai EV affordable?
At the price of just over $45,000, the Ioniq 6 long-range is more affordable than most, especially considering the mileage. With a 77.4 kwH battery pack, the SE Long Range gets an EPA-estimated 361 miles from a full charge.
All-wheel drive is also available with this battery pack, which boosts power to 320 horsepower, according to Car and Driver. However, range does drop a bit with this configuration. Even so, the 316-mile range of the Ioniq 6 with all-wheel drive is more than impressive.
How much is the most expensive Ioniq 6?
Currently, the top priced Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV is the Limited AWD model. As indicated, it comes with all-wheel drive and produces 320 horsepower from a dual-motor system. The same 77.4 KwH battery from the long range appears here. However, the wheel size increases to 20 inches and additional features make this model considerably heavier. Altogether they drop the range to 270 miles. That figure is still respectable, but the near $60,000 price tag makes it difficult to justify.
This new Hyundai EV offers great range and affordability
That the Ioniq 6 is offering over 300 miles of range for less than $50,000 is a great sign for the future of electric vehicles. While there is a long way to go toward making such models even more affordable, this new Hyundai EV is a great step in the right direction.
