The Pros and Cons of Buying a 2022 Nissan Altima
The 2022 Nissan Altima has a lot to offer mid-size sedan buyers. The Altima has a good value proposition as it undercuts competitors like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in price and matches them in features. And while the Nissan Altima is a good choice for anyone in need of a sensible sedan, there are some pros and cons to consider before buying one.
Pro: The 2022 Nissan Altima has two engine choices and an available AWD system
One leg up that the 2022 Nissan Altima has over the competition is its available AWD system. It also has the option of a variable-compression turbocharged engine, however, you can’t have both at the same time. If you want all four wheels to spin, then you’ll have to opt for the base 182-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with the CVT. However, if you want more power, then we highly recommend opting for the 236-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine instead.
Pro: The Altima’s infotainment system is agreeable
According to the editor at Cars.com, “the Altima’s standard infotainment system is refreshingly simple to live with.” The touchscreen is mounted high on the dashboard where it can be viewed easily and touched without any tough reaching. There are also volume and tuning knobs present, which is an added plus in our book.
Con: Child seats don’t fit that well
The editors at Cars.com found that the Altima’s rear seat doesn’t handle forward-facing convertible child seats well. Apparently, the large seat bolsters and fixed headrests make it difficult for the child seat to fit well. Also, the seatbelt buckles sink into the seat cushions, which makes them hard to use.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Altima is useless when it comes to child seats. But it’s something to consider if you have a child seat to put back there. We recommend test fitting your child’s seats at the dealership before purchasing the car to make sure they work.
Con: There’s no hybrid powertrain alternative
Nissan used to offer an Altima Hybrid, but the model was discontinued after 2011. It’s a shame because rivals like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Hyundai Sonata all offer a hybrid option in the current market. Also, considering today’s super high gas prices, it would be nice if the Altima came paired with an electric assist.
How much does the 2022 Nissan Altima cost?
The 2022 Nissan Altima has a starting price of $24,900, which is about $1,000 less than the base Camry and $1,700 less than the base Accord. Even the top-trim Altima Platinum ($34,600) costs $1,670 less than the Camry XSE V6 and a whopping $3,850 less than the Accord Touring. That’s a huge difference considering all three sedans are similarly equipped as well.
Case in point, if you and your family are in need of a midsize sedan, then the 2022 Altima is an excellent choice. It’s well-equipped and provides a lot of power and capability depending on which trim level you choose. However, no matter which Altima you go with, you know that you’re definitely getting a good value.
