Starting this U.S. News list is the 2022 Hyundai Venue. The Venue is actually the cheapest new SUV on the market right now, but it gets the job done. Hyundai only offers the Venue with one engine choice and no all-wheel drive option, but it is safe and brand new. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2022 Venue its highest score on all tests, except for the headlights. Try to find one with LED headlights, if possible. Some standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning (FCW) and lane keeping assist (LKA).

Kia’s funky Soul is a quality new SUV on the market

The refreshed 2023 Kia Soul is ready for your next adventure together. Kia’s funky little Soul sedan sometimes makes it on lists like “best cars for tall people” and “best cars for short people” because it is that versatile. It has tons of room for people and cargo, plus 147 horsepower. Drivers say it offers a pleasant driving experience and comfortable seats. FCW and LKA are standard on the 2023 Soul, but blind-spot monitoring (BSM) is optional. Kia’s Soul is a quality new SUVs that won’t break the bank.

The Nissan Kicks will get you from point A to point B safely

You might not often hear about the 2022 Nissan Kicks, but it has plenty to offer buyers. U.S. News says it gets 31 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway and has 122 horsepower. The low starting price is also a pretty big positive for buyers. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, plus many standard safety features. Nissan equipped it with forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), and automatic emergency braking (AEB).

The Hyundai Kona sport utility vehicle is under $22,000

The 2022 Hyundai Kona has a nice interior, and owners report that it is easy to drive. It received the 2022 Best Subcompact SUV for the Money award from U.S. News, thanks to all of the standard equipment. FCW, AEB, and LDW are all standard. Plus, lane keeping assist (LKA) is another safety feature Hyundai included. The 2022 Hyundai Kona received “good” scores on all IIHS tests.

Chevrolet’s Trax is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive

While the 2022 Chevrolet Trax has a low starting price, it doesn’t have too many features to make it shine. It is compact and has good fuel economy, coming in with 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for the front-wheel-drive version. The all-wheel drive option dips to 23 mpg city and 30 on the highway. Chevy’s Trax received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

If you are worried one of these smaller SUVs might be too small, go test drive one. The Kia Soul is deceivingly big inside and has a reasonable price for most buyers. You might be hard pressed to find a new car under $25,000, but these five options fit the criteria.
