R.I.P: The Chevy Colorado Desert Boss Is Already Dead
If you blinked, then you may have missed your chance to snag a new and exciting Chevrolet Colorado special edition. The Chevy Colorado Desert Boss is already being dropped from the lineup, but it’s being replaced by something even beefier. You can still use this truck to dominate the sand!
Say goodbye to the 2023 Chevy Colorado Desert Boss
We were pretty excited to see the new 2023 Chevy Colorado Desert Boss arrive last year, but this package is already biting the dust. We wanted it to destroy sand instead. While exploring each of the new trim levels, we missed our chance to grab one.
The Colorado Desert Boss builds upon the ZR2 with high-speed racing upgrades to tackle the sand dunes. The ZR2 adds 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires and Multimatic DSSV dampers.
It also has a unique off-roading tuned suspension, a two-speed transfer case, electronically locking differentials in the front and rear, 10.7 inches of ground clearance, LED lights, cast-iron control arms, and a 3.42 ratio rear axle.
Then the Desert Boss package adds 17-inch beadlock capable wheels, a unique front bumper with a bush guard, a roof-mounted LED light bar, an underbody trail camera, a sports bar with sail panels on the sides, black badging, and unique decals.
You might still be able to find one at a dealership lot but act fast. The racing-inspired Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss is being replaced by the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. This could be due to a lack of interest in the Desert Boss model. But it’s hardly had anytime to gather interest.
What comes with the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison?
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is pretty intense with the turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four High Output engine with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. It rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires.
Suspension components include independent coil over shocks with Multimatic DSSV dampers and hydraulic bump stops in the front. The rear features a solid axle with semi-elliptic two-stage multi-link springs. There’s a locking differential in the front and rear.
It has a ground clearance of 12.2 inches. American Expedition vehicles (AEV) steel bumpers and five boron skid plates protect the undercarriage. Steel rock rails are also standard. AEV branded floor mats and headrests help the interior pop.
When will the Colorado ZR2 Bison be available?
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison already made its debut, so that’s a good sign. However, it’s a 2024 model, so we may have to way a few more months to get behind the wheel.
It’s unclear when the 2024 Colorado will enter production, but it is expected to start sometime during the third quarter of the year. This could mean that the ZR2 Bison will reach dealerships by the fall.
The official price for the ZR2 Bison hasn’t been released, but the extra capability and equipment won’t be cheap. Rumors suggest that it will start above $60,000. This isn’t surprising because it is the most capable Colorado ever.
Stay tuned for updates about production and official pricing.
