And another bites the dust. The flame of the Chevy Spark was officially smothered. It’s time to say goodbye to the 2022 Chevy Spark as its production comes to an end later this year. But why is Chevrolet killing its cheapest option?

The Chevy Spark is officially dead

This little light of mine it’s not going to get a chance to shine. The Chevy Spark is going dark as production ceases in August 2022. All puns aside, we’re sure the cheapest bowtie hatchback will be missed.

The 2022 Chevy Spark has an MSRP of $13,600. This is the MSRP, so the price doesn’t include the destination fee or dealership markups. But even with the added fees, the Spark serves as one of the lowest-priced brand new vehicles in America.

According to The Truth About Cars, the average price of a new car rose to $47,077 by the end of 2021. Plus, the affordable Ford Maverick is sold out until 2023. Where are people expected to find low-priced options?

What to buy instead of the Chevrolet Spark?

If the 2022 Chevy Spark isn’t your cup of tea, there are other cheaply priced options available. For example, the 2022 Hyundai Venue starts at about $19,000, and the 2022 Nissan Kicks begins at around $19,700.

But Chevrolet suggests moving up in size from the subcompact Spark. The 2022 Chevy Trax has an MSRP of $21,400, and the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer starts at about $21,600. Those prices aren’t bad, but they aren’t under $20,000 either. These options have updated engines and modern amenities that the Spark doesn’t.

With the Chevy Spark, you get a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 98 hp and 98 lb-ft of torque, so don’t expect to fly around town. The Spark can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 10.7 seconds.

The Chevy Trax has a 1.5-liter turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 155 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 9.3 seconds, which is a little better.

Last but not least, the Chevy Trailblazer comes with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine for 155 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The Trailblazer can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.4 seconds.

Is the 2022 Spark worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Chevy Spark is worth buying if you want an economy option. It has a low price, but it’s not low quality and has plenty of pros and cons. For example, it’s fuel-efficient. The Spark gets an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and up to 38 mpg on the highway.

It’s nimble and agile, making it easy to maneuver in tight city areas. Plus, each model is offered with a manual transmission. It may have a bit of a bumpy ride, but it has a quieter interior compared to rivals.

The interior consists of plastic materials with attractive textures, and you can opt for leather trimmings and heated seats. But the seats are a little unsupportive, and the backseat is tight for average-sized adults.

With the entry-level model, you get a 7.0-inch infotianment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can access two USB ports and a 12-volt outlet in the rear. The system is quick and intuitive.

If you want a brand new Chevy Spark, act fast. This little hatchback isn’t sticking around much longer. By the end of the summer, they could all be gone.
