Another one of Stellantis’s SUVs is biting the dust. This time the Dodge Durango is on the chopping block and will be discontinued after 2024. But as we say goodbye, we also prepare for the Dodge Duraango’s mysterious replacement.

The Dodge Durango is being discontinued and replaced

So many of Dodge’s muscular vehicles have been fading away. The next SUV to get the axe is the tantalizing Dodge Durango, which has been left on the backburner.

It hasn’t been updated since 2020 and may seem dated compared to more recently updated options like the Toyota Sequoia.

As Stellantis started dropping options like the Dodge Charger and Challenger, interest in the Durango declined. It sold 69,195 sales in 2023 while the Chevrolet Tahoe sold 110,326 models.

Instead of revamping the Durango to maintain its brawny image, Stellantis is going in a different direction with the brand.

Reportedly, the Durango will be replaced by a brand-new three-row SUV with a new style and modern look. The new vehicle will revive the Dodge Stealth title, which was a sports coupe from 1991 to 1996.

It’s expected to ride on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, meaning it will be smaller. However, that will leave space for Dodge to craft a larger SUV with the Jeep Wagoneer platform. This larger new model could be called the Durango.

But first, we will see the Dodge Stealth, which won’t be electric. It will use the new Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine.

The Standard Output variant provides 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque. The High Output variant cranks out 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque.

Durango engines that will be missed include the 6.4-liter V8 engine with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque and the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.

However, the gas-powered powertrain will be quickly followed by a potential hybrid or electric powertrain.

The Dodge Stealth isn’t expected to arrive until 2026, so stay tuned for updates. The new Jeep Cherokee will probably arrive first.
