Racing the Ford Maverick Against the F-150 Hybrid Isn’t Fair
Drag racing can be fun until someone picks on the little guy, like the 2022 Ford Maverick. This compact truck was put against its massive brother, the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid. The Ford Maverick at least managed to look cute and confident during the race.
The 2022 Ford Maverick and Ford F-150 Hybrid had a race
Generally, power is the primary advantage when it comes to drag racing. The 2022 Ford Maverick doesn’t have as much power as the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, creating an unfair advantage.
However, the Maverick does weigh about 2,000 lbs less than the F-150. So, it did have a tiny chance to make a difference in this race. But once it was go time, the Ford F-150 left the Maverick in the dust.
How much power does the Maverick have?
The 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor to generate 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds. This is about average with crossover SUVs and compact cars.
You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the Maverick can reach 60 mph in about six seconds. This is much more enticing, despite not having the same fuel economy as the hybrid.
The 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost has a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s paired with an electric motor to churn out 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds, leaving the MAverick with no chance.
But we have a surprise for you. The 2022 Ford Maverick beat a Ford Bronco model at the track. The Bronco has quite a bit of weight due to the off-roading equipment. But we didn’t expect it to get outraced!
The Bronco was equipped with a 2.7-liter town-turbo V6 engine with 315 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds. We aren’t sure which Bronco model was used.
The Tucci Maverick is coming
The 2022 Ford Maverick is proving itself a little on the track. But it needs a few adjustments as a racer. For example, the suspension is pretty rough, and its upright, boxy shape isn’t exactly the most aerodynamic.
But the Tucci Maverick concept that was displayed at SEMA will be available next year. It includes a lowered suspension, large rear cab spoiler, fender flares, smaller front spoiler, wider wheel wells, and custom turbofan wheels.
Performance-enhancing parts consist of a Borla cat-back exhaust with dual carbon fiber tips and a set of coil-over shocks. The coil-overs are paired with rear tow links and sway bar links from the Massive Speed System.
The truck is based on the AWD model with the more powerful, gasoline-powered engine. Pricing is expected to stay close to the base model. We will keep you updated about when the Tucci Maverick enters production. We hope it can dust the larger Ford F-150 on the track.
