The Ram 1500 Classic is a budget option for truck shoppers. Stellantis announced a recall for the Ram 1500 Classic over a serious brake system issue. According to CarComplaints.com, the recall was announced on February 18th, 2021.

Stellantis announces a 24-vehicle Ram 1500 Classic brake recall.

On February, 18th 2021, CarComplaints addressed the recall. In July of 2020, the company recalled 33,000 Ram 2500 and 2500s over steering problems. This brake recall is even more dangerous. Specific units of the 1500 Classic were built with potential brake pedal issues.

Luckily, there were only 24 units affected by the recall. However, this isn’t the first highly dangerous recall the 1500 Classic has faced. More than 200,000 Ram vehicles were recalled for fire safety.

A small number of Ram 1500 Classics with a huge problem

This is far from a mass recall. Ram trucks have been the subject of several much larger recalls. However small, this recall addresses a serious safety risk.

Braking properly is the first line of defense from collisions and crashes. Retaining clips typically attach the brake pedal to the master cylinder pushrods and 24 1500 Classics are missing these retaining clips.

Without them, the brake pedal can fall off. In short, it would not be possible to apply the brakes after such a failure. This potentially deadly defect is a massive cause for concern. 

Recall-related repairs are available through licensed Ram dealerships

Owners affected by the Ram 1500 Classic Brake Recall will be notified directly by Stellantis. Licensed dealerships can install the missing retaining clips. Affected owners should reach out to Stellantis at 800-853-1403 and reference the recall number Y04 to schedule the necessary repairs immediately.

Repairs will be completed at no cost to the buyer. In conclusion, affected owners should waste no time in having this potentially dangerous braking issue addressed. 

A look at the Ram 1500 Classic’s overall ratings

The overall picture of the Ram 1500 Classic is mixed. Firstly, critics and owners love the look of the 1500. Conversely, several systems disappoint.

This Truck guzzles fuel and earned low emissions ratings from Consumer Reports. The eco-diesel performs significantly better in this category.

Handling fared even worse during testing. Consumer Reports gave the 1500 Classic high marks for its reliable transmission but little else. The truck was commended for its comfortable ride and roomy rear passenger seats.

Ironically, Consumer Reports had no complaints about the Ram 1500 Classic’s braking system. 

The recall is part of a more significant reliability issue

The Ram 1500 Classic brake recall isn’t the truck’s only issue. Ram’s redesign received a lowly two out of five reliability score from Consumer Reports. In reliability testing, the Ram’s transmission, suspension, and drive system all fail to impress.

This truck has been the subject of several recalls, some of which could be potentially dangerous. Minor recalls over windshield wipers caused drivers minor inconvenience. A 2019 recall addressed a far more complicated issue.

A faulty battery terminal in some units commonly overheated and increased the risk of fire within the cabin. This issue was even present when the vehicle was not running.
