The Ram 1500 EV Range Extender Provides a Shocking Advantage
Y’all know that we’ve been keeping our eyes glued to the Ram 1500 EV for updates, and we finally got an epic detail to geek out over. The Ram 1500 EV will be available with a range extender, providing a unique advantage over rivals.
The Ram 1500 EV has a range extender
What do people want? More range! When do they want it? Now! But unfortunately, the Ram 1500 EV isn’t out yet. Once it arrives, it will have something that sets it apart from the Chevy Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning.
It will have an optional range extender to help relieve range anxiety. So, what exactly does that mean? The truck will have a gas or diesel motor that exists to recharge the battery. According to The Truth About Cars, range extenders haven’t been popular in the past.
But maybe the Ram Revolution will change that. In the past range, extenders were paired with combustion-based platforms that were converted into electric vehicles. Now the range extender will be paired with a dedicated electric platform.
So the idea is that having a small combustion motor that only activates when more energy is needed will be more efficient than a traditional hybrid. It could also be cheaper to manufacture than a plug-in hybrid with the strength to tow or equipping the truck with a larger battery pack.
What to expect with the electric Ram truck
The Ram 1500 EV is still in the works, and it’s taking notes to do things differently. Running with a range extender will allow the electric ram to be classified as a zero-emissions vehicle for several vital markets.
One of the most significant issues for electric vehicles is managing weight, especially when it comes to towing. This could be why we haven’t seen an electric truck that’s rated for massive loads.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs, while the gas-powered model can tow up to 14,000 lbs. The 2023 Chevy Silverado EV can tow up to 10,000 lbs as well. It also promises that it will tow up to 20,000 lbs later.
We’re keeping an eye on the Silverado EV to see how it will achieve that massive number. Perhaps it has a secret range extender in the works. We wish we had numbers for the Ram 1500 EV to compare, but the specs have been kept under wraps.
Help the Ram EV be the best
Join the Ram Revolution to provide Stellantis with what you want or need with the Ram 1500 EV. Stellantis is listening to customers to build the best electric truck possible.
Ram CEO, Mike Koval shared that the Ram 1500 electric truck will push past the current competition and the other competition that will arrive first and the customer expectations of what a truck should be. The fully electric pickup truck will have a class shattering range-extender version.
The 2024 Ram 1500 EV is expected to arrive with the electric Dodge Charger or Challenger. We can’t wait to learn more about them. We hope they will be worth the wait. Instead of trying to catch up, Ram is trying to be better.
