More trouble is brewing for Stellantis due to the Ram 1500. Allegedly, these large trucks struggle with power steering failure. The defect may cause a serious safety risk that the plaintiffs want remedied.

Ram 1500 lawsuit alert due to power steering failure

According to Top Class Actions, the Ram 1500 is being sued due to an alleged power steering defect. The plaintiffs, Nancy Ludwig and Joseph Spillane failed the class action complaint on August 30 in a New Jersey federal court.

They claim that Stellantis knowingly manufactured Ram trucks with a dangerous problem. As the electrical power steering unit fails, it becomes difficult to maintain control of the truck. This increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

The issue is related to 2013-2024 Ram 1500 models. The plaintiffs claim that Stellantis has been aware of the issue for years, but never addressed the problem. As a result, owners face $4,000 repair bills.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) started investigating the matter after receiving roughly 400 complaints about partial or complete power steering failure by drivers

Based on what the investigators find, a recall could be launched. The investigation is still ongoing and the plaintiffs claim there are tons of Ram 1500 drivers that are unaware of the potential problem.

Ludwig claims they experienced power steering failure in January 2024. Her partner was driving and suddenly lost control in a fast food line, nearly hitting two pedestrians.

The truck was towed to a mechanic. The mechanic confirmed that the electrical power steering unit failed and needed to be replaced.

While the Ram truck has faced many recalls, none are related to the power steering module. The plaintiffs are suing for breach of warranty and unjust enrichment.

They’re also seeking certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs, and Stellantis to correct the potential problem. Stay tuned for updates.
