When thinking about holiday traditions, the Ram 1500 truck may not come to the front of your mind. However, the Ram truck has been an integral part of a major American holiday event for the last several years. If you pay close attention this year, you will see what we mean.

Ram 1500 truck Limited (RED) Edition will tow Santa’s Sleigh at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an American holiday tradition with its 95th run this year. Spoiler alert but every year at the end of the parade, Santa Claus makes an appearance, thus marking the unofficial start of the holiday season.

Santa’s sleigh is led by his eight reindeer as usual but additionally, the Ram 1500 aids in pulling the weight of all the gifts for good girls and boys.

Ram has announced that the 1500 Limited truck will resume its duty as the official vehicle of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and tow vehicle for Santa for the seventh consecutive year.

“As the brand that is ‘Built to Serve,’ the Ram Truck brand is honored to serve as the official truck of this iconic parade as our full portfolio of award-winning trucks pulls these floats down the streets of Manhattan,” said Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr.

The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited (RED) Edition truck will be painted with a custom shiny bold red color (not pictured here). As a (RED) Edition product, Proceeds from the sale of this Ram 1500 variant will go to the (RED) Global Fund that helps fight the AIDS pandemic and COVID-19.

Where Ram giveth Dodge taketh away

While the 2022 Ram 1500 is getting into the holiday giving spirit, fellow Stellantis brand Dodge is getting a bit scrooge-ish.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed in an interview that Dodge Hellcat vehicles will end production after 2023. That’s right. In two short years, the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Durango will no longer have Hellcat options available.

Kuniskis suggested that emissions standards are the leading cause for killing off the Hellcat badge. However, we suspect that a significant reason for ending Hellcat production is so that Dodge can make way for its upcoming crop of “electric muscle” cars.

Will there be an electric Ram truck?

It looks like Ram will produce electric trucks set to release in 2024. The Ram 1500 electric truck is expected to have a 500-mile range with battery modules that offer 159-200 kilowatt-hours.

Notably, Ram is behind the curve when it comes to electric trucks. The Rivian R1T is currently on the market, and the Ford F-150 Lightning is due in 2022, along with the Tesla Cybertruck and Hummer EV.

To compete, Ram will need to offer some compelling options with its first EV truck if it hopes to carve out a decent slice of the market.

In the meantime, at least Ram can say it’s Santa Claus’ official choice of truck.
