The Ram 1500 Lunar Edition Isn’t What This Truck Needs
We’re excited about the new Ram 1500 Lunar Edition models, but we’re also a little underwhelmed. The easers about this truck made it seem like something much more exciting was on the way. However, the 2023 Ram 1500 Lunar Edition off-road trucks are a little out of this world.
What comes with the 2023 Ram 1500 Lunar Edition?
The 2023 Ram 1500 Lunar Edition is primarily an appearance package with a few off-roading upgrades. It also has a few extra bells and whistles. The Lunar Edition is available with the Ram 1500 Rebel and the Ram 1500 TRX.
The Lunar Edition includes an exclusive shade of Ceramic Grey paint. It’s paired with each model’s unique black graphics, bumpers, badging, and wheels. Cars.com shared that it gets rid of the TRX’s cladding, and the paint goes down to the rockers.
With the TRX, you also get black 18-inch beadlock capable wheels, a bed liner, cargo tie-downs, and a bed step.
It’s equipped with the Level 2 Equipment Group, which includes keyless entry/ignition, heated seats, ventilated seats, a wireless charging pad, power-adjustable aluminum pedals, a 19-speaker Harmon Kardon stereo system, an integrated trailer brake controller, and a head-up display.
The interior features vibrant blue accent stitching, carbon fiber accents, a carbon fiber and aluminum flat-bottom steering wheel, and unique badging.
The Rebel Lunar Edition has 18-inch Gloss Black wheels, black mirrors, heated front seats, and a 12.0-inch touchscreen.
Pricing for the Ram 1500 Rebel Lunar Edition starts at $72,205, and the Ram 1500 TRX Lunar Edition begins at $108,340. They’ll be available in the spring.
Is the Ram Lunar Edition worth it?
The 2023 Ram 1500 Lunar Edition models are worth it if you would like for your off-roading truck to have a unique color and a few extra luxury comforts. However, the hype for these models blew up.
We got a nine-second teaser showing headlights in the dust. Through the sound of the wind, you could hear an engine roar in the distance, and it said, “A New Force is Landing.”
That makes sense for the lunar theme, but we had high hopes for something besides pretty upgrades. The Ram 1500 would benefit from the Hurricane engine, and Stellantis needs to provide a compact truck to fight the Maverick.
Not to diss the Ram 1500 because it is the most comfortable truck, but it might be getting a little stale. It has been the same since 2019, but the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado have each received new looks and upgraded tech since then.
Plus, the F-150 has made things pretty interesting with the introduction of hybrid and electric powertrains, while the Ram truck has the same old options.
How much power does the Ram Lunar Edition have?
The 2023 Ram 1500 TRX Lunar Edition has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. It has whole two extra ponies over the Ford F-150 Raptor R.
With the Ram 1500 Rebel Lunar Edition, you get a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. It has been in action since 2023.
But the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine cranks out 500 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. With that power boost, the Ram 1500 might be able to tow as much as its rivals.
