Why Does the Ram 1500 REV Look So Normal?
The Ram electric truck is coming, although it’s not here yet. It’s coming for the 2023 model year, and already, Ram 1500 REV reservations have filled up. This EV pickup comes on the heels of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the announcement of an electric Chevy Silverado, but it does look like it could be a winner. Unfortunately, it also only vaguely resembles the concept that Ram revealed earlier this year.
What happened to Ram’s electric truck concept?
The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV truck was revealed at the Chicago Auto Show as a concept, and the production version is quite different from what we saw. Gone is the pass-through that ran all the way from the grilled to the tailgate, and the unique doors are no longer present on the Ram 1500 REV electric pickup.
Now, the carriage doors, I can understand. It’s probably not a feature most folks are looking for on a full-size truck. But that full-length pass-through seems like a pretty practical thing to have on a truck. Rather than take too many risks, it looks like the Ram 1500 REV is borrowing quite a bit from the regular half-ton truck offered by the brand. And that might be a good thing.
People seem to like electric trucks that are trucks
If the Ford F-150 Lightning is any indication, people seem to appreciate an EV pickup that isn’t too different. The Ford Lightning closely follows the ethos of the regular F-150, and that looks to have paid off. The Blue Oval can’t make enough electric trucks to keep up with demand at the moment.
On the other hand of the spectrum, you have something like the Tesla Cybertruck. Although no one knows if that thing will ever be built, it does stray from the traditional truck equation. That could very well hurt it with folks who want an electric truck that does not scream that it is an EV.
When you look at the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, it is pretty clear you are looking at a Ram product. Overall, it really seems like your typical full-size truck. Except in this case, power is delivered by batteries rather than an internal combustion engine.
Can you buy a 2025 Ram 1500 REV?
As of April, it is possible to place a reservation for Ram’s electric truck, but it is not at dealerships as of yet. It is coming for the 2025 model year, so there’s likely a significant buffer between reserving one and actually getting it in your driveway.
According to Car and Driver, with up to 654 horsepower and 620 pound-foot of torque, it’s clear that Ram is hoping to dethrone the Ford F-150 Lightning. But if you are familiar with pickup trucks, you probably know that brand loyalty Ram 1500 REV can play a big part in where people spend their money.
At the end of the day, the electric Ram truck is another sign of the changing times. Mainstream manufacturers are fully embracing EV technology. Even if some truck owners might balk at the idea.
