Folks seem to love their American-made pickup trucks, so much so that a model that is built in a place like Mexico can bring it criticism. Ram hopes to avoid that by producing its new electric truck, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, here in the States. And an old Jeep factory in Illinois could be on the shortlist.

Where is the 2025 Ram 1500 REV built?

The Ram truck brand has not announced where the Ram 1500 REV will be built, but it is supposed to happen in the United States. One of the factories that would make sense for this electric truck is the Belvidere plant in Illinois.

After the last Jeep Cherokee rolled off the line, the Belvidere plant was idled earlier in 2023. According to AutoBlog, Illinois officials are trying to convince Stellantis to allow the plant to handle the Ram 1500 REV production. This means offering money and other incentives to make bringing the factory online easier.

Now, according to sources familiar with the situation, Stellantis might be wary of doing business in Illinois. In an interview, UAW Local 1268 President Kevin Logan said: “I’ve heard it’s an astronomical amount of money. I’d be shocked if they turn it down. […] if they don’t accept it, in my mind, that tells me they don’t want to do business in Illinois.”

Are Ram trucks built in America?

Simply put, it depends on which Ram truck you are talking about. The Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 Classic get built at the Warren Truck Assembly and the Sterling Heights Assembly plants in Michigan.

Meanwhile, most heavy-duty Ram trucks are manufactured in Mexico. Looking at the VIN is an easy way to determine where your truck is built. American-assembled Ram trucks will have a VIN starting with 1, 4, or 5. Meanwhile, the ones made in Canada start with a 2, and Mexico is 3.

The automotive industry is certainly a global effort. But some folks hold vehicles manufactured and assembled in the States in higher regard. It is certainly nice to see a company like Ram investing in the local community by offering jobs at a factory.

Ram’s electric truck is coming

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV is confirmed, and we are getting more information about it fairly regularly. Ram has stated that this truck will have a 500-mile range, beating out rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning EV.

This electric truck will do so with a 229-kWh battery pack, likely putting other EVs on notice.

The other big Ram 1500 REV news is that it will have up to 654 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. Meaning that it is taking full advantage of its electric powertrain. We don’t yet know how much this truck will cost. But it will probably start around $60k, with some models climbing north of $80,000.

Needless to say, Ram might be late to the electric fight, but it seems like the brand is coming out swinging with its new EV.
