Why the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Is Better Than the Ford F-150 Raptor
When it comes down to it, one truck has to be better than the other. The Ford F-150 Raptor is still a bit mysterious in the small details, but we can compare what we do know to the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Are you set on the Ram over the Ford? Check out the specs of both trucks below.
2021 Ford F-150 Raptor or 2021 Ram 1500 TRX?
The Ram 1500 TRX is definitely making waves as some real competition for the F-150 Raptor. The Raptor has generally gone undisputed as the kind of high-performance off-road pickup trucks, but that might change now.
The 2021 Ram TRX has won MotorTrend’s truck of the year. Ram claims the truck is the “most powerful production street-legal half-ton pickup ever built.” But when it comes down to it, which one is better?
And while the Raptor might have some cool easter eggs hidden about, the TRX might win this round. On the airbox cover is an image of a T. rex with a raptor in its mouth.
The TRX is priced at $71,790, but the Launch Edition will cost you an extra $12,150. Your truck preference might come down to brand loyalty at this point.
Ford has not announced the price of the 20201 Raptor yet. In comparison, the price of the 2020 Ford Raptor is just under $54,000. Based on some estimates by Car & Driver, the 2021 model is expected to be just under $60,000.
The Ram TRX is definately faster
The TRX comes in at 702 hp with 650 lb ft of torque. The Raptor is said to get at least 450 hp in comparison. The TRX gets from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and has a supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8. Aptly nicknamed the “T. rex,” the Hellcat engine might be more attractive to buyers.
It also comes equipped with Launch Control and Launch Assist, which help accelerate at a faster speed. The TRX comes with 11.8″ of ground clearance vs. the 13.1 on the Raptor.
However, it isn’t always just about going fast. It certainly is a big factor in choosing a car or truck, but the 450 hp might suit your lifestyle just fine.
The Raptor has a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, while the TRX comes with an eight-speed transmission.
Ford vs. Ram
Both trucks offer plenty of benefits for the driver. A lot of potential buyers might be loyal to one brand or the other. If you are loyal to Ram, the TRX is a great choice. If you are a Ford fan, the Raptor will be just as exciting and reliable.
MotorTrend compares the two trucks without too much bias. The Raptor and the TRX will only come in the SuperCrew style. Both trucks are fairly wide. The Raptor at just under 87 inches wide, while the TRX is just about 89 inches wide.
The Raptor payload is 1,400 pounds with a towing maximum of 8,200 pounds. The TRX payload comes in at 1,310 pounds with a towing maximum of 8,100 pounds. The cargo volume is almost identical at 52.8 cubic feet for the Raptor and 53.9 for the TRX.
The Raptor comes with optional 37-inch tires compared to the TRX’s 35-inch tires when it comes to off-roading capabilities.
So is the TRX actually better than the Raptor? I guess that depends on your plans for it. If you can get your hands on either one, we think you will like it.
