Ram Might Be Previewing a Midsize Truck
2022 seemed like it was the year of the truck, and consumers loved it. We got the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and it was the first model year of the third-gen Nissan Frontier. 2023 might continue that trend with a new Ram midsize truck from the brand. That’s right, Ram has reportedly shared a concept of a new small pickup truck, but this time, it will be electric.
Does Ram have a midsize truck?
As it stands, Ram does not offer a midsize truck. After the Dakota was discontinued back in 2011, the smallest truck that this brand offers is the Ram 1500. But rumors have been circulating for some time that we could see a midsize Ram truck.
Recently, at a meeting in Las Vegas, Ram showed off various ideas for a new midsize truck. And although it probably won’t have an internal combustion engine, it could be quite the hit with those in search of a small pickup.
According to Car and Driver, Stellantis officials showed off a variety of potential products to dealers. And one of those appeared to be a new midsize truck that looked like a Ram.
More and more brands are offering electric trucks
Although ICE trucks remain supreme, truck manufacturers are exploring the potential of electric trucks. There is the Ford F-150 Lighting, Ram 1500 REV, and GM has plans for a battery-powered Silverado. But a midsize electric truck is missing from the market.
Midsize pickups like the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier are fairly popular. Ram has been missing out on a slice of the pie since 2011. It’s honestly a little surprising that the brand has gone this long without offering something smaller than the Ram 1500 until now.
While the general public has yet to see what the small electric pickup looks like. Dealers have, and that is usually the start of a product making its way to the market.
Is there an electric Ram truck?
In January, Ram officially revealed its electric truck. It is known as the Ram 1500 REV and looks to have its sights set on the Ford Lightning. Ram knew that it would be late to the EV game, so it is important that its EV truck is competitive. The Ram 1500 REV has not hit dealerships yet, but reservations are already full.
A midsize truck could be on its way to complement a full-size electric truck. Although a lot of folks would probably prefer a small Ram truck to be powered by a gas engine, this news does not make it look like that will be the case.
We expect this electric concept to borrow a lot of looks from the Ram 1500 REV. Although, the Ram 1500 REV does look very different from the concept first shown to us. With news of this meeting with dealers occurring, it would not be surprising to see more rumors of a midsize Ram truck circulating.
