Ram Trucks CEO Makes big New Promises for 2024 Ram EV Truck
We won’t see the new Ram electric truck for about a year, but the company CEO is making big promises about the upcoming truck. The new Ram Revolution Concept, which means “not-real,” truck will be shown at the L.A. Auto Show in November. But Ram’s CEO, Mike Koval Jr., now says the new Ram EV pickup prioritizes towing, hauling, and other core truck attributes.
The new Ram EV truck will debut in 2023
Koval said that his message with the new Ram EV truck will be that “Trucks still need to do truck things,” as reported by the Detroit Free Press. He said that the new truck’s baseline range needs to be 300 to 350 miles. Ram is keeping those goals in mind as it develops the new truck, which was announced last spring. The new truck should debut in 2023 under the Revolution brand name.
Ram hasn’t released much info about its EV truck
The new Ram truck remains a mystery. But, we do know that it will get built on Stellantis’s (Ram’s parent company) new skateboard-style architecture. That platform has motors in front and back, which means the truck will have all-wheel drive. In the handful of official images that Ram has shared, it looks to be more stylized that the Ford F-150 Lightning, which simply looks like an F-150 with a smooth grille.
Ram is late to the EV party
Ram is a little late with its EV truck to the party. Ford and Rivian already have EV pickups in owner’s hands. Chevy’s new Silverado EV is coming in 2023. So far, Ford has delivered about 5,000 Lightnings to owners and Rivians are starting to be more common.
While Ford has more than 200,000 reservations for the Lightning, Chevy has 140,000 for its new Silverado EV truck. Many new EV truck buyers have already decided on one of those, and the new Ram will have to bring a lot to the table. There could be more electric trucks on the horizon, too, with Toyota and other manufacturers teasing us with concept trucks.
What do the Lightning and Silverado offer?
The Ram will have to contend with the new Chevy Silverado EV and the Ford F-150 Lightning. We’re sure comparison tests will abound. Ram has not released pricing, but both the Silverado EV and the Ford Lightning start in the mid $40,000 range.
Though we’re still waiting to see Chevy’s new EV truck, a lot has been made about the 2024 Silverado EV’s four-wheel steering and its expected massive horsepower. The Silverado gets fast-charging capability through the Ultium Charge 360 Fleet Service and a 400-mile range so you can get to the job site. The five-seat truck also has customizable storage in the front and easy-to-clean upholstery.
The Lightning can be ordered in basic, or Pro, trim for$46,974. The top-of-the-line Platinum version is a shocking (!) $96,874. The Range of the Lightning varies from 230 miles to 320 miles, depending on which battery pack you order.
