3 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Honda Odyssey, Not a Toyota Sienna
In the world of minivans, the Honda Odyssey is one of the last cars in the segment, but it still has some worthy competitors. For example, the Toyota Sienna is one of the Odyssey’s main rivals. Many customers who are shopping for a minivan probably wonder how the two minivans compare with one another. Here are three reasons why the 2022 Honda Odyssey is a better minivan option than the Toyota Sienna.
The 2022 Honda Odyssey is much more affordable
One of the main advantages of the Odyssey is its price tag. According to Consumer Reports, the Honda minivan starts at about $33,000. This makes the Odyssey one of the most affordable options in the segment. Due to how Toyota designed the Sienna, the Toyota minivan is much more expensive than the other options in the segment.
The main reason the Odyssey is cheaper than the Sienna is that Toyota recently gave the Sienna a hybrid powertrain as standard. While that has some obvious benefits to the minivan’s fuel economy, what it’ll also mean is that customers will have to pay more money upfront for the Sienna than compared to the Odyssey.
Currently, the Sienna starts at about $35,300, which means Odyssey customers would save about $2,300 if they chose the Honda minivan over the Toyota minivan. This price difference is true even with the fully-loaded version of either vehicle. The Odyssey can cost up to about $49,000, while the Sienna can cost up to about $51,500.
Honda gave the 2022 Odyssey significantly more power
Another area where the Odyssey is better than the Sienna is in terms of power. Toyota gave the Sienna a hybrid powertrain as standard, while the Honda has a regular V6. Both minivans only have one engine option, so the Odyssey will always be more powerful without aftermarket modifications than the Sienna.
The Odyssey has a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the Sienna has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid that gets 245 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque.
Despite this significant power difference, the acceleration times between the two minivans are relatively similar. Consumer Reports wrote that it takes the Odyssey about 8.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, while it’ll take the Sienna about 8.2 seconds to do the same.
The 2022 Honda Odyssey is more spacious than the Toyota Sienna
Another reason why the Odyssey is a better pick than the Sienna is size and space. While both minivans are large and can carry quite a few people and a lot of their stuff, the Odyssey is simply better in this area. The Honda gets 38 cu-ft of cargo capacity without folding any seats. With the third row folded down, it gets 92 cu-ft. With its second and third row folded down, it gets up to 158 cu-ft.
In comparison, the Sienna gets just 33.5 cu-ft of cargo capacity without folding any seats down. With the third row folded down, it gets 75.2 cu-ft, and if its second and third row gets folded down, it only gets about 101 cu-ft of cargo space. This difference in cargo capacity may not mean much if owners never fold their seats down, but it will add up for grocery runs and other similar errands.
