5 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, Not a Ford Mustang Mach-E
When it comes to purchasing a compact SUV, two models stand out in the market: the Ioniq 5, a top-seller for Hyundai, and the Mustang Mach-E. When you peruse the specs of both vehicles, it looks pretty clear to us which one offers the most for your money. Here are five reasons the Ioniq 5 is better than Ford’s Mach-E.
1. Better fuel economy ratings for the Ioniq 5
According to Edmunds, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets a combined total of 114 mpge. Consumer Reports show that the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle gets around 90 mpge combined. For energy savings, it’s clear the Ioniq 5 offers quite a bit more for your money.
According to Consumer Reports, the Hyundai has a 98 mpge combined total, but this was the AWD model’s performance, whereas the 114 mpge was the result for a rear-wheel-drive version. So, even the AWD model gets more than what the Mach-E offers for energy savings.
2. Better electric driving range
Like the fuel economy ratings, the Ioniq 5’s electric vehicle performs better with its driving range. Using the rear-wheel drivetrain, Edmund’s testing found that it could go around 303 miles on a fully charged battery, which is pretty good compared to some of its rivals.
The Mustang Mach-E gets significantly less, though. It was only able to offer 270 miles on a single charge at most. Unfortunately, it didn’t perform near as well in colder weather.
3. Faster charging times
When it comes to charging times, the Hyundai comes out on top again. Using a 240-volt charger, Hyundai’s electric SUV was able to charge the battery in almost nine hours from a 25% charge.
When testing the Mach-E with the same 240-volt charger, the results showed the Mustang took a little longer. In over 10 hours, the battery finally charged up from a near-empty state. While it may not seem like much of a difference, every minute counts when they need to get on the road for some people.
4. Bigger interior space in the Ioniq 5
One of the most popular reasons to choose an SUV is its storage capacity and overall roominess. The Ioniq 5 offers 27.2 cubic feet of storage, with the rear seats up for cargo space. It has approximately 133.7 cubic feet of space for elbow room when it comes to roominess in the entire cabin area.
With the Mustang Mach-E, you can expect a bit less room. According to Edmund’s, you get around 125 cubic feet of space to move around in. However, there’s a bit more space in the cargo area with 33.8 cubic feet, including the 4.8 cubic feet for the frunk, which the Ioniq 5 doesn’t have.
5. Better Warranty with the Ioniq 5
If a good warranty is important to you when deciding which vehicle to buy, especially an electric one, the Ioniq 5 proves its worth. Hyundai offers a five-year/60,000-mile warranty for your basic bumper-to-bumper protection. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t even come close with its three-year/36,000-mile one. However, it does offer a five-year/60,000-mile warranty for its drivetrain.
There’s also a powertrain warranty that’s good for 10-years/100,000 miles for the Ioniq 5. Ford’s answer to that is its five-year/60,000-mile warranty. Clearly, Hyundai backs its products up more than Ford.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E offer great electric compact SUVs. But, when it comes to which one has more value for your money, we’d have to say that the Hyundai is the clear winner, and we’ve shown you five reasons why.
