5 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, not a Toyota bZ4X
There’s a lot of tough competition in the EV market right now, and one of the fastest-growing forces in the EV market is the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. As a result, a lot of folks are probably wondering how the Ioniq 5 compares to the other electric SUVs on the market. Here’s a look at five reasons why you should buy a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and not a 2022 Toyota bZ4X.
1. Hyundai gave the Ioniq 5 a better standard warranty
Hyundai is very well-known for offering some generous warranties for its cars, and this is still the case with the Ioniq 5. According to Edmunds, the Ioniq 5 has a 5 year/60,000 mile basic warranty. In comparison, the bZ4X only has a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, which is worse in every way compared to what the Hyundai has.
2. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a longer driving range than the 2022 Toyota bZ4X
Range is a big issue for folks who are shopping for an EV, and the Ioniq 5 can get more range than the bZ4X gets. The standard bZ4X gets 252 miles with its front-wheel drive configuration, and its range number drops to 228 miles with the all-wheel drive configuration.
The standard version of the Ioniq 5 gets about 220 miles, but Hyundai offers the Extra Long Range option for the car. This replaces the Ioniq 5’s standard 58-kWh battery with a 77.4-kWh battery, and that boosts its range to 303 miles with rear-wheel drive, or 256 miles with all-wheel drive.
3. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 also has more power and torque than the Toyota
In terms of power, Hyundai also offers more on the Ioniq 5 than Toyota offers on the bZ4X. The standard Ioniq 5 gets 168 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the standard bZ4X gets 201 hp and 196 lb-ft of torque. Toyota’s all-wheel drive option boosts those numbers to 215 hp and 249 lb-ft of torque.
However, with the Extra Long Range option, the Ioniq 5 can get 225 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque with the rear-wheel drive option, or 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque with the all-wheel drive option. Overall, the standard bZ4X will be slightly faster than the standard Ioniq 5, but the Extra Long Range trim of the Ioniq 5 will be significantly faster and have significantly more range.
4. You can fit more stuff in the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 than you can in the Toyota bZ4X
On top of that, the Hyundai has more max cargo capacity than the Toyota does. Without folding down any seats, both SUVs are pretty similar, as the Hyundai has 27.2 cu. ft. of cargo space, while the Toyota has 27.7 cu. ft. of cargo space, according to Edmunds. With their seats folded down though, the Ioniq 5 gets 60.2 cu. ft. of cargo space, while the bZ4X gets 56.1 cu. ft. of cargo space. That’s a difference of about 4 cu. ft.
5. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a lighter car too
Lastly, the Ioniq 5 can be much lighter than the bZ4X. The standard Ioniq 5 only weighs 3,968 pounds, but that’s with the standard battery. The bZ4X, meanwhile, weighs 4,266 pounds. When equipped with the bigger battery, the Ioniq 5’s curb weight jumps to 4,414 pounds. However, the bZ4X has a bigger max payload capacity.
As a result, the Toyota actually has a higher gross weight than the Hyundai does. The Toyota has a gross weight of 5,435 pounds, while the Hyundai has a gross weight of 5,357 pounds. This lighter weight may give the Ioniq 5 better driving dynamics than the Toyota.
