Many automakers are trying to make cheap EVs to flood the market, but some are still competing in the luxury EV segment. Currently, there’s a fierce fight between the 2022 Porsche Taycan and the 2022 Tesla Model S. While both EVs are capable, here are four reasons customers may want to buy a 2022 Porsche Taycan and not a 2022 Tesla Model S

1. The 2022 Porsche Taycan has a lower MSRP than the Tesla

For folks shopping for a luxury car, price isn’t the most significant consideration, but it can still matter for many people. According to U.S. News, the Taycan is the cheaper EV with more trims. On the other hand, Tesla only offers one option over the base trim.

Even when comparing premium trims, the Taycan 4S AWD starts at about $104,000, while the Model S Plaid AWD starts at about $136,000. Porsche customers can save tens of thousands of dollars by choosing the Porsche or spend that money getting an even better car.

2. The Porsche has a lot of standard and optional features

For that price tag, Porsche offers quite a few features on the car, while Tesla’s offerings are more sparse. And the Porsche has features Tesla doesn’t offer. One of the most prominent examples is that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the Taycan, while Tesla doesn’t offer either.

However, it’s a close contest between the two cars as Tesla offers many of the same things Porsche offers, and there are a few things Tesla has that the Taycan doesn’t. For example, the Model S has an entertainment system and a hard drive as standard, and Porsche doesn’t offer either.

3. The 2022 Porsche Taycan has better interior quality than the Model S does

Overall, the Taycan has better interior quality than the Model S. This shouldn’t be too surprising since the Taycan is a Porsche, and the company is known for having luxurious cars. On top of that, the Model S and Tesla’s cars don’t have the greatest reputation for having high-quality interiors.

Furthermore, some design choices make the quality differences between the two cars starker. For example, Porsche offers leather seats on the Taycan, while Tesla only offers synthetic leather on the Model S.

4. The 2022 Porsche Taycan isn’t a Tesla

This reason is pretty obvious, but it can also be important for some people. Elon Musk, who owns Tesla, is very outspoken and has been a controversial figure in recent years. While many EV customers won’t care about Musk’s antics, especially his recent political shenanigans, some customers may care.

In the past, EV customers had few options but to buy a Tesla. However, the EV space is growing faster than ever, and the Taycan is a very capable luxury EV that can do many of the same things that a Model S can do. The Taycan doesn’t have the baggage of being associated with Musk.
