3 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna, Not a Chrysler Pacifica
When it comes to the minivan segment, there aren’t many left. The Toyota Sienna is one of the last minivans left. Still, the Sienna has a lot of good competitors, including some newer ones. One option is the Chrysler Pacifica. Shoppers may wonder how the 2022 Toyota Sienna compares with its rivals. Here’s a look at three reasons why the Sienna is a better minivan than the Chrysler Pacifica.
The 2022 Toyota Sienna has a better fuel economy than the Chrysler
Like Consumer Reports wrote, one of the best things about the Sienna is its fuel economy. This is mostly thanks to Toyota recently giving the Sienna a hybrid powertrain as standard. There aren’t any other engine options available. As a result, every Sienna customer will get a hybrid, and it’ll be far more fuel-efficient than other minivans on the market.
The Sienna gets about 28 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on highways, for 36 mpg combined. In comparison, the Pacifica’s standard engine is a gas-powered 3.6-liter V6, and it gets 13 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on highways, for 21 mpg combined. That’s a difference of 15 mpg, and since gas prices are so high right now, that fuel economy difference will mean a lot of money in the long run.
Chrysler does offer a hybrid option for the Pacifica. It’s a PHEV, which allows the Pacifica hybrid to get a better fuel economy than the Sienna. The Pacifica hybrid gets about 82 mpge. It can go about 32 miles on battery power alone. With that being said, the Pacifica hybrid is much more expensive than the Sienna, as it starts at over $40,000.
The 2022 Toyota Sienna is an affordable minivan
That high price tag isn’t unique to the hybrid version of the Chrysler minivan. Another issue with the Pacifica, especially compared to the Sienna, is price. The Chrysler starts at $37,000, which is significantly more expensive than the Sienna’s starting price tag of about $35,000. This roughly $2,000 price difference is made worse when their fuel economies are compared.
Since the standard Sienna is so much more fuel-efficient than the standard Pacifica, it would make sense to compare their hybrid versions instead. Since the hybrid Pacifica starts at over $40,000, Sienna customers are looking at savings of about $5,000 upfront.
Their price difference gets worse in terms of their fully-loaded versions. The Pacifica can cost up to $58,000, while the Sienna can cost up to $51,500, according to Consumer Reports. That’s a price difference of about $6,500.
The 2022 Toyota Sienna can have more seats
While both minivans are very spacious and offer a lot of head room, leg room for passengers, and cargo capacity, one area the Pacifica falls short on is seating capacity. Toyota and Chrysler offer their minivans with an eight-seat configuration, but the Chrysler’s problem comes from its hybrid option.
The Pacifica hybrid can only seat a max of seven people. This is because the second row of seats gets turned into two captain’s chairs. These seats are nice and comfortable for whoever’s sitting in them, but it will obviously mean that the Pacifica hybrid will lose a seat. In comparison, the Sienna can seat eight people while still being a hybrid, and the passengers in the Sienna will still be very comfortable.
