Today Stellantis issued two separate recalls involving over 168,000 Jeep Wranglers and Ram ProMaster vans. The Jeep models are the 2022 to 2023 Wrangler 4xe hybrids with the issue being potential sudden power loss. The ProMaster recall is for transmission issues with the 62TE automatic transmission.

What is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe recall for?

For the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the issue is with fuse fasteners causing its 200-amp fuses to melt in its high-voltage batteries. High resistance is the cause. If this happens, the Wrangler can immediately lose power, potentially causing an accident. The fuse fasteners are U.S. made by Samsung SDI America.

These fasteners were superseded by an improved fuse fastener in September 2022. Dealers will inspect and replace affected fuse holders. If there is evidence of heat on the battery bus bars, Jeep will replace the battery pack assembly.

Around 2,500 Jeep Wranglers are part of this recall. But the issue could also apply to the Mopar SVCE-Kit Hybrid Battery Packs. These battery packs are also in 2022 to 2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrids. Around 220 are part of this recall.

Both Jeep and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are not aware of any reports of injuries or accidents related to the problem. Overall, Jeep says it has three warranty claims and eight field reports identified with these battery packs. Drivers should be aware of malfunctioning indicator lights, changes in drivability, or unusual noise, according to Automotive News

Why is the Ram ProMaster recalled?

For the Ram ProMaster vans, the issue is over a software problem affecting the 62TE automatic transmission. Placing the transmission in Park might not be fully engaged because of debris inside the transmission. This can lead to the possibility of a roll-away incident. It involves 2019 to 2021 ProMasters. Ram first became aware of the problem last August.

Ram dealers will either update the powertrain control module software or replace it. It will also replace any components in the transmission affected by the issue. Ram has received over 60 warranty claims and two customer assistance reports connected to the problem. Neither Ram nor the NHTSA is aware of any crashes or injuries from the issue.
