Recall Alert: 43,000 Ford Bronco and Sports Might Erupt in Flames
Here we go again. There is another Ford Bronco recall to address. However, this recall alive involves the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape. Gas could leak from the fuel ejectors, leading to fires. See if this recall involves your vehicle.
Ford Bronco, Sport, and Escape recall due to fire risks
This Ford Bronco recall doesn’t leave the boxy SUV alone, because the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport are also at risk.
Each model equipped with the 1.5-liter engine is at risk because the fuel injectors can crack, allowing fuel to leak and collect near hot ignition sources. As a result, there is a fire risk that should be taken seriously. Nearly 43,000 models from 2022 and 2023 are included.
Ford shared that it has received five reports of fires from under the hood and 14 warranty fuel injector replacements. But it is unaware of any related accidents or injuries.
Ford will begin notifying owners at risk via mail this month. You can also call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with any questions you may have. The reference number for the Bronco recall is 24S16.
You can also visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) site and enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N) to see if your vehicle is at risk.
If your Bronco, Bronco Sport, or Escape is included, then you will need to visit a local dealership for service. You don’t have to return to the same place where you purchased your vehicle.
Technicians will install a tube that causes the fuel and vapors to flow away from hot surfaces. They will flow to the ground under your vehicle instead. It might just be me, but that still sounds dangerous. I don’t want gas leaking in my driveway.
Anyways, Ford technicians will also update the engine control system to detect a pressure drop in the fuel injection system. If a drop occurs, the system will disable the high-pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power, and reduce temperatures in the engine compartment.
The repairs will be completed free of charge. However, this recall is linked to a larger one back in 2022 with more vehicles involved and the same exact solution. So, does it actually work?
The Ford Bronco recall solution to prevent fires may not work
This Ford Bronco recall that’s related to the Bronco Sport and Escape doesn’t seem like it was properly fixed the first time.
According to the NHSTA, Ford’s Internal Combustion Engine Propulsion Thermal Systems Engine (ICEPTS) team identified leaks during component-level injector flow testing on fuel injectors recovered from two Bronco Sport models that already experienced fires.
Basically, the Bronco Sport models were still leaking fuel after the date of their repairs from the first recall. But Ford claims it’s unaware of any problems on vehicles from the previous recall.
Ford is confident that this repair will work because it will prevent the failure from occurring and protect the customer. Plus, the new software will cause a light to illuminate on the dash, letting drivers know that they need to reach a safe location and arrange for service.
Also, Ford is extending warranty coverage for the fuel pumps, so owners who experience the problem can receive replacements. More information on that will be available in June.
Why doesn’t Ford replace the faulty fuel injectors with ones that don’t crack? This seems a little fishy, so stay tuned for updates.
