RECALL ALERT: 1 Million Toyota Models Have Airbag Problems
If you drive a Toyota, then it’s time to pay attention. Over 1 million vehicles, including the Toyota RAV4, Highlander, Sienna, Corolla, etc. They have a dangerous issue that requires a trip to your local service center.
Toyota recall due to airbag problems
Toyota Motor Company just issued a recall for over 1 million vehicles due to malfunctioning airbags.
The defect may prevent airbags from properly deploying, increasing the risk of injuries and death.
Vehicles in its SUV class, like the Toyota RAV4 and Highlander, and other cars, like the Corolla, may have sensors in the front passenger seat that have been manufactured improperly.
Specifically, the Occupant Classification System (OCS) may have been assembled with interference from other internal parts.
As a result, the sensors could short-circuit. The airbag system may incorrectly account for the passenger’s weight or not deploy in certain types of crashes.
The vehicles involved include:
- 2020 – 2022 Toyota RAV4 models
- 2020 – 2022 Toyota Sienna models
- 2020 – 2022 Toyota Highlander models
- 2020 – 2022 Toyota Avalon models
- 2020 – 2022 Toyota Corolla models
- 2020 – 2022 Lexus ES250 models
- 2020 – 2022 Lexus RX350 models
The hybrid variants are also included. Toyota will begin notifying affected owners by February 2024.
But you don’t have to wait that long to see if your vehicle is at risk. Toyota owners can call 1-800-331-4331, and Lexus owners can call 1-800-255-3987 to see if their vehicles are at risk and for more information.
If your vehicle is involved, then you will need to visit a local Toyota or Lexus dealership for service.
Technicians will inspect the OCS sensor and replace it if necessary at no cost to owners. It’s unclear how long the process will take. Save time by calling ahead or scheduling a maintenance appointment online.
