Recalls are a pretty common thing when it comes to the automotive industry. What does this recall affect?

Chrysler and Dodge are in the process of recalling more than 50,000 models, because of a faulty tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This reall is happening because the battery in the system could possibly fail, which in turn can make this entire system fail.

What is the tire pressure monitoring system?

The tire pressure monitoring system is responsible for ensuring your tires are all properly inflated. If your tires deflate at all, you will be alerted inside of your car. In some systems, it will actually alert to the exact tire that is low on pressure. This is a great tool for drivers to utilize to make sure they can keep their tires in the best shape.

What happens if the recall happens to my car?

If you drive one of the affected models, your TPMS could fail. The battery that controls the system will prematurely die and in turn, your system will stop working. Furthermore, you will not be alerted to tire pressure loss, even if your light was already on. If this happens and it goes unnoticed or is ignored, drivers could possible suffer a full tire failure or have a higher risk of a crash.

What Dodge vehicles are being recalled?

Right now, there are a total of 52,340 models that are in the process being recalled. For Dodge drivers, the affected models are both the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger. For these two models, this recall specifically affects models that were built between August 2021 and June 2022. If you drive a model in this date range, Dodge will be reaching out to you, if they haven’t already. 

What Chrysler vehicles are being recalled?

On the other hand, if you drive a Chrysler, there is just one model that is affected by this recall right now. The only model affected is the Chrysler 300, specifically models that were built between September 2021 and June 2022. If you are driving a Chrysler 300 that is being recalled, Chrysler will reach out to you if they haven’t already. 

What to do if my car is recalled?

If you get notice that your Chrysler or Dodge is being recalled, set up a time at your local Chrysler or Dodge dealership service center to ave the issue resolved. Someone from the service department will inspect the TPMS, and if necessary, replace the sensor for free. Don’t worry too much, you will be in good hands with those professionals.
