Recall Alert: Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, GMC Trucks And Crossovers For Dangerous Tires
GM issued a recall for potentially defective tires. A wide range of vehicles is involved that include 2020-2021 Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC pickup trucks and crossovers. The Continental tires were over cured when manufactured. What that can cause is that the tires “may experience a carcass break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss.” If the dangerous tires fail or there is a sudden loss of air pressure the potential for a crash is raised.
Tires showing over cured issues matching DOT numbers will be replaced
Owners will receive recall notices by mail directing them to make an appointment with a local dealer. Dealer technicians will inspect the affected vehicles. If the tires show over cured issues and match DOT numbers of particular lots they will be replaced.
These are the affected vehicles: 2020 Buick Enclave, 2020 Cadillac XTS, 2020-2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Traverse, 2020 Chevy Acadia, 2020-2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The following tires are affected: 255/55R20 Continental CrossContact LX20, 255/70R17 Continental General Grabber HTS, 255/65R18 Continental CrossContact LX Sport.
Almost 12,000 vehicles have been recalled
In all almost 12,000 vehicles have been recalled according to GM Authority. But only some tires within this group are actually over cured. If you are not sure if your vehicle is part of this recall you can go to GM’s recall website and plugin their VIN number.
Though Continental is a German company it has three manufacturing plants here in the US. They’re located in Sumter, South Carolina; Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and a commercial tire plant in Clinton, Mississippi. Continental is the fourth largest tire manufacturer in the world. It was ranked third in global OEM auto parts sales in 2012.
