Recall Alert for Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 Models With Stalling Engines
Do you have a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ram 1500? Then you might want to check if your vehicle is running. There is a massive recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 models due to fuel injector timing issues.
Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 recall
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is issuing a recall for 58,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee models manufactured 2014 – 2016 and Ram 1500 models from the years 2014 – 2018 equipped with the 3.0-liter diesel engines due to crankshaft issues.
The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may split apart into layers. As a result, the engine loses the ability to synchronize with the fuel injector pulses and camshaft timing. Therefore the engine may not receive fuel and stall. This could increase the risk of injuries.
Fiat Chrysler has noted that they are unaware of any injuries or accidents related to this issue. Also,vehicles equipped with the newer FCA 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engines are not affected by this recall.
What if my Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ram 1500 is at risk?
Fiat Chrysler will begin notifying owners of vehicles affected by this recall on October 2nd. However, if you don’t want to wait that long to see if your truck or SUV is on the list you can call FCA at 800-853-1403.
Also, you can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4263. Or you can visit the NHTSA website here to enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
If your Ram 1500 or Jeep Grand Cherokee is at risk, then FCA will update the powertrain control module software to sustain vehicle propulsion by reading the camshaft position signal even if the crankshaft position signal is lost. This vehicle maintenance will be free of charge.
You do not have to return to the same dealership where you purchased your Grand Jeep Cherokee or Ram 1500 for maintenance. You can return to any Fiat Chrysler dealership. However, it will be best to schedule a maintenance appointment in advance. You can find a local dealer for your repair here.
Other Jeep and Ram 1500 recalls
Recently FCA recalled over 318,587 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Cherokee, 2019-2020 Ram 1500 models, the Ram 3500, Chrysler Pacifica, Jeep Renegade, Dodge Durango, and 2019 Dodge Challenger models with the 8.4” or 12” radio displays due to software issues.
The software problem causes the camera to continue displaying the rearview angle even after shifting the vehicle out of reverse. This issue causes the vehicles to fail to comply with the Federal Vehicle Safety Standards requirement 111 for Rear View Mirror safety.
In June of 2020, FCA issued a recall for 2020 Ram 1500 pickups and the 2020 Ram Promaster van for airbag issues. The trucks and vans at risk may not have a properly crimped diffuser in the side curtain airbag.
As a result, the diffuser may detach from the airbag during deployment and the airbag may fail to properly inflate. This puts the driver and passengers at a higher risk of becoming injured during an accident.
