A Ford Maverick and Ford Mustang Mach-E recall just made Ford pause all sales. The recall affects both vehicles, including any Mustang Mach-E produced from October 5, 2021, to November 18, 2021. Additionally, the recall affects Ford Maverick models made between October 6, 2021, and October 20, 2021. Ford won’t sell Maverick or Mach-E units to customers until repairs are completed, according to Motor1.

According to Motor1, the size of the bolt holes for attaching the rear seat belt buckles is too large. The abnormally sized holes decrease the seatbelt’s ability to restrain passengers during a crash. Obviously, the recall could be dangerous, resulting in the stop-sale. In addition, a Ford spokesperson told Motor1 that there are no known injuries or deaths caused by this issue.

There are 2,626 vehicles that fit into the aforementioned production dates. Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn’t published this information, the Ford spokesperson claims it already sent the necessary recall paperwork to the NHTSA.

According to Ford Maverick Truck Club, the automaker will send out a dealer bulletin the week of January 3, 2022. Subsequently, the dealers will receive information about ordering replacement parts and repair instructions. Following that notice, dealers will contact customers who own vehicles affected by the seatbelt issue. From there, it’s only a matter of time until dealerships get the correct parts in and can begin making repairs.

It’s good practice to make a recall appointment as soon as possible with your local dealer. Recall parts often have limited availability, so act fast. Recall parts go from the manufacturer to dealers in waves, so if more than one supply is necessary, late appointments will need to wait for a second shipment. In rare cases, recall parts can take months or longer to arrive.

Can you currently buy a Ford Maverick or Ford Mustang Mach-E?

You can still purchase a Ford Maverick or Ford Mustang Mach-E model from your local dealer. If the vehicle your specific store sells entered production outside of the aforementioned dates, you can buy it right away. However, you’ll have to wait if your purchase is affected by the recall. Dealers would make customers wait to take it home even if they preordered it months ago. They’ve been told not to let customers drive off the lot with a unit affected by the recall.

If you’re the owner of a Ford Maverick or a Ford Mustang Mach-E, your rear seatbelt could be dysfunctional. Contact a dealer if your vehicle might have a faulty seatbelt. Additionally, those in the market for a new Maverick or Mustang Mach-E model might need to wait. However, if local dealer inventory entered production outside the recall dates, Maverick and Mustang Mach-Es are available now. Hopefully, this recall and stop-sale won’t slow production as it did for the Ford Bronco after the hardtop debacle.
