Recall Alert: Nissan Trucks Impacted By Faulty Tires
As a truck manufacturer, Nissan is not the most popular. But plenty of folks do opt for the Nissan Frontier and Nissan Titan to be their pickups of choice. Unfortunately, it looks like a new recall might be impacting these models. And your truck could be affected.
Is there a Nissan recall?
Both the 2023 Nissan Frontier and the Nissan Titan have a recent recall. Apparently, a tire mounter that was used for production might have damaged tires during installation. This can cause the tires on your truck to rapidly deflate.
So far, it looks like 4,249 models are affected. And Nissan has requested that dealerships not sell the impacted models that might be on their lot. In total, there are six known cases of this happening.
Although this is an active recall, Nissan is not aware of the issue causing any collisions or injuries. It’s not unusual for a new vehicle to have a recall. But it is unfortunate when it happens.
Nissan has investigated the issue. A tire mounter boot had recently been replaced at one of its production facilities, and it was the wrong shape. This means that the boot was making contact with the inner bead of the tires in a way that could cause a fault. The bead could tear during installation, which can cause rapid deflation of tires.
Does Nissan make good trucks?
Despite some recent recalls, Nissan is seen as a solid truck manufacturer. According to J.D. Power, the 2023 Nissan Frontier gets a higher ranking than the Toyota Tacoma. It also comes with a standard V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower.
The Nissan Titan is a bit of a different story. Not only is it one of the least popular full-size trucks, but it is also one of the most expensive. At the same time, you do get a standard V8 engine, and that is a rarity in this segment.
In 2023, you can no longer buy a new Tundra pickup with a V8. Toyota has limited the 2023 Tundra to a twin-turbocharged V6. And while I do love that powertrain, it’s not quite the same as a naturally aspirated V8 engine.
While the Titan might not be popular with new buyers, I usually do hear good things about it from folks who actually own them. It would be nice to see Nissan give its full-size truck a full redesign, like the third-gen Frontier. But rumors point to the Nissan Titan being discontinued in the coming years.
Why do trucks get recalled?
A recall for a pickup truck is issued when a manufacturer or the NHTSA determines a safety risk is present. While a recall can be seen as a bad thing, it’s also a good system to have in place. Recalls are fixed at no cost to the owner, and keeping them in check can give you more confidence in your vehicle.
At the end of the day, if you get a notice your truck has a recall, you should get the issue corrected as soon as possible.
